very much so!

goole, Tuesday, 21 July 2009 18:22 (fourteen years ago) link

damn yeah thats hot

mustafa moe money (deej), Tuesday, 21 July 2009 18:41 (fourteen years ago) link

i really liked the og "throw it in the bag" - im kinda sad that it flopped major

autotune the jews (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 July 2009 19:32 (fourteen years ago) link

I don't mind this version; it's – well, you'll see tomorrow.

Heric E. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 21 July 2009 19:37 (fourteen years ago) link

sarge, seriously, how many times can you preemptively declare "IT'S A FLOP!" while a song's still rising up the charts before you learn to stfu and at least wait for it to peak and drop a few spots?

stupidcrazyswagilisticjumpininyaladyocious (some dude), Tuesday, 21 July 2009 19:42 (fourteen years ago) link

the song is like a month old already and it's not even in the itunes top 100! what is it going to make the top 40 two months from now?

autotune the jews (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 July 2009 19:51 (fourteen years ago) link

i mean the guy's album is coming out next week - i'm pretty sure def jam had higher hopes than for it to have peaked at #82 by last week

autotune the jews (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 July 2009 19:52 (fourteen years ago) link

it climbed six spots to #19 on rap/r&b! maybe this week it will catch "ice cream paint job"!

autotune the jews (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 July 2009 19:56 (fourteen years ago) link

if you're putting more stock in the iTunes store than radio adds then that's your first problem. anyway, not saying it's a smash, but it's clearly still growing, and ever week i hear it more. didn't soulja boy's last couple hits taking 6 months to peak make your year and here you are not understanding how long some songs take to really impact radio?

stupidcrazyswagilisticjumpininyaladyocious (some dude), Tuesday, 21 July 2009 19:56 (fourteen years ago) link

maybe def jam has, let's say, more reasonable expectations for a fabolous album

goole, Tuesday, 21 July 2009 20:00 (fourteen years ago) link

uh the guy had a top 10 hit and a top 20 hit off his last album and managed to get these two on the cover of xxl so i would say that they have, let's say, pretty high expectations for a fabolous album

autotune the jews (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 July 2009 20:04 (fourteen years ago) link

idn't soulja boy's last couple hits taking 6 months to peak make your year and here you are not understanding how long some songs take to really impact radio?

yeah im sure def jam will be psyched for fabolous' lead single to peak in jan 2010

autotune the jews (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 July 2009 20:05 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah Def Jam is throwing out albums with zero promotion all over the place this summer (Ace Hood, Willy Northpole, Unladylike), but Fab is practically a big deal compared to those releases, even if just on a relative scale. still, his last album had a huge single and just barely went gold, so stakes aren't high. I'm just saying, I wouldn't be surprised at all of "Throw It" is top 10 in a few weeks.

xpost

stupidcrazyswagilisticjumpininyaladyocious (some dude), Tuesday, 21 July 2009 20:05 (fourteen years ago) link

i mean you might be right but even if it sneaks into the top 10 of hip hop/r&b a week or two after his album drops would that still not be considered a flop? a collabo w/ the dream after what the two singles from his last album did?

autotune the jews (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 July 2009 20:07 (fourteen years ago) link

Unladylike

this one is really good btw

lex pretend, Tuesday, 21 July 2009 20:08 (fourteen years ago) link

well it depends where it peaks, obviously, but slow rising songs aren't flops, they're sleeper hits. and anyway my point was just it's funny how often you dramatically call something a "major" flop while i'm still hearing it every time i get in the car.

stupidcrazyswagilisticjumpininyaladyocious (some dude), Tuesday, 21 July 2009 20:15 (fourteen years ago) link

well whatever we don't have rap radio here, so fine ill take your word for it - it's certainly a disappointment at least

autotune the jews (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 July 2009 20:19 (fourteen years ago) link

certainly

k3vin k., Tuesday, 21 July 2009 20:26 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah i mean, i think the-dream is still really punching above his weight class in a lot of ways, as far as being featured on an established artist's lead single, getting on multiple magazine covers, trying to get kanye to do a whole album with him -- he really just doesn't have that juice yet and it feels like he's trying to force it to happen as quickly as the songwriting thing happened for him.

stupidcrazyswagilisticjumpininyaladyocious (some dude), Tuesday, 21 July 2009 20:27 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah i agree - i mean im not surprised vibe folded if they gave the-dream & milian a cover (did i already post that somewhere else?)

autotune the jews (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 July 2009 20:28 (fourteen years ago) link

i mean he and his albums definitely have a more diehard following (not just talking about this thread) than a lot of gold-selling R&B singers, but he needs to come to the realization that "single ladies" or whatever going to #1 doesn't automatically boost his career as a performer xpost

stupidcrazyswagilisticjumpininyaladyocious (some dude), Tuesday, 21 July 2009 20:29 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah, but I orig. dled love/hate based on reading it was by the Umbrella dude so there's that too.

❊❁❄❆❇❃✴❈plaxico❈✴❃❇❆❄❁❊ (I know, right?), Wednesday, 22 July 2009 20:04 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah, obviously it's a big factor in him having a career and people taking an interest in him -- i'm just saying that him writing a #1 doesn't elevate his profile nearly the way it would if he recorded a #1

some dude, Wednesday, 22 July 2009 20:10 (fourteen years ago) link

that Milian song suuuuuucks.

Heric E. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 22 July 2009 20:11 (fourteen years ago) link

yes it does

we make rub' dongs from 4" to 6" (k3vin k.), Sunday, 9 August 2009 23:51 (fourteen years ago) link

how old is that? i know i've heard that chorus before

we make rub' dongs from 4" to 6" (k3vin k.), Sunday, 9 August 2009 23:51 (fourteen years ago) link

I think it's about six months old. He ended up giving it to Lionel Richie.

haha this is great but it's pretty funny how much dream's personality/personal style shows in this song. verses sound a lot like "so good"

we make rub' dongs from 4" to 6" (k3vin k.), Monday, 10 August 2009 01:35 (fourteen years ago) link

err most dream compositions sound like his because he has a very specific and identifiable formula

i feel like it must be demoralizing for lionel richie to do an album full of songs written by ne-yo and the-dream. or maybe he just laughs and says to them "y'know, i used to be you."

some dude, Monday, 10 August 2009 02:25 (fourteen years ago) link

he's old tho

we make rub' dongs from 4" to 6" (k3vin k.), Monday, 10 August 2009 03:07 (fourteen years ago) link

pretty sure shaffer wrote for his last album too

kenan & keller (The Reverend), Monday, 10 August 2009 07:01 (fourteen years ago) link

i don't think shaffer has quite the same ring as terius

crutboard dudes get subway, totally (J0rdan S.), Monday, 10 August 2009 07:07 (fourteen years ago) link

the terius version is a better song but i think it 'works' better as a lionel richie track if that makes sense - the lyrics are so swathy ("the rain will turn into change") that it fits the sort of all encompassing AC dentist office blandness that richie brings

crutboard dudes get subway, totally (J0rdan S.), Monday, 10 August 2009 07:09 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah i do like both versions of that song a lot

tickle me imo (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 15 August 2009 06:16 (fourteen years ago) link

production sounds a bit undercooked but it's got a really good hook i think - chorus melody is great too

tickle me imo (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 15 August 2009 06:17 (fourteen years ago) link

sometimes the original question becomes problematic for me.

"i'm not ok" is like top 5 dream-written songs of the year for me

king dom, come (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 1 September 2009 03:46 (fourteen years ago) link

^^^ Completely agree. Not sure why it works so well, but that melody is beautiful.

pearsonic, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 04:53 (fourteen years ago) link

for a second I thought The-Dream was a ghostwriter for MCR

gonna just answer 'yes' before even clicking that

k3vin k., Saturday, 12 September 2009 17:14 (fourteen years ago) link

okay yeah that's nice - seems pretty damn understated for a mimi track tho!

k3vin k., Saturday, 12 September 2009 17:19 (fourteen years ago) link

wow that beat is cool.
