U2 No POLL On the Horizon

there's not really any salvaging this mess, the problems are way bigger than just the tracklist. only "moment of surrender" is really close to a success. if they hadn't self-sabotaged by getting scared about the lack of hits after the morocco sessions, it still wouldn't have been a very good art-rock album, just less confused.

I was under the impression per Eno that they scrapped a lot of the Morocco sessions simply because their attempts at incorporating Moroccan elements into their music weren't deemed anything special, just competent at best.

after the morocco sessions they were like "oh this stuff is too experimental, there's no hits here" & brought in lillywhite to help them rework what they'd done to be more accessible, discarding the most adventurous & moroccan-influenced material. eno later said that the material they discarded wasn't very convincing in its integration of the moroccan influences, which is very believable.

I guess the days of "well, let's put it out as a side project under a different name (e.g. Passengers)" are long gone.
