sorry if this was talked about elsewhere but these dimitri from paris “a la french: the balearic sessions” comps of his early remixes are wonderful - highly recommended if you enjoy the late 80s/early 90s balearic/house interzone https://favoriterecordings.bandcamp.com/album/a-la-french-1987-1992-the-balearic-sessions-vol-1

ftr karl I know you said on the other thread I hate balearic but honestly I was all over the (fine, proggier end of the) mid-00s balearic wave - studio, kate bush's aerial, lindstrom, strategy etc - there was a real sense of momentum and build to that stuff at its best, and we're entering the 20-years-later zone so i'm expecting grand-scale balearic revenance soon
― imago, Thursday, 11 April 2024 16:57 (one month ago) link
my bad imago! i didn't mean to flatten out your taste. i admit i sometimes use you as kind of a counterpoint to my own urge towards reduction/simplicity, but mostly b/c i'm fascinated by where our opinions align
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Thursday, 11 April 2024 17:22 (one month ago) link
haha no problem, i know i very much encourage the perception i'm a maximalism and progressiveness specialist but the reason i even still post to ilx is that i'm still keen to find those intersection points between my own sensibilities and the other regulars'. mid-00s balearic was fertile ground for this. i should really check this thread more often

new Double Geography album Open Water out today
― default damager (lukas), Wednesday, 1 May 2024 06:06 (three weeks ago) link
Double Geography aka Duncan Thornley (one half of Weird Weather and studio engineer at MAP Studios), following the success of his debut album “The Indoor Gardener” (also on Invisible Inc) had sent Invisible Inc label boss GK Machine demos of his second and third album, which the label reluctantly declined on the basis that the music didn't sound quite right for the label. However, this fourth studio album fits the bill perfectly.
Man I'm curious what those other two albums sound like.
― default damager (lukas), Wednesday, 1 May 2024 18:47 (three weeks ago) link
Oh man, this Open Water album is sounding lovely so far. I'm hearing a bit of Kankyō Ongaku in here. Just what I needed after spending my whole day trying to configure a printer.
