I avoided pop culture for most of the 2000s and 2010s so I'm out of touch, but I was under the impression that Scouting for Girls were legitimately successful not all that long ago. It's odd to see them on a line-up underneath Cast and Billy Ocean. And that they don't have their own logo. A bit of Googling reveals that they were part of the landfill indie wave of the late 2000s, along with the Pigeon Detectives and probably lots of other bands. 2010 doesn't feel like ancient history but I suppose in the world of pop music it is. And yet their "best of" 2022 tour has a lot of arenas, so perhaps they just really like gigging.
Tell a lie. Back in 2013 I did a blog post about Virgin's Brief History of Ambient series, and I made this graph:http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rSyoKElyjNo/Uo0chzucK0I/AAAAAAAAKNw/ax9FY9qO4Wk/s1600/pigeon.jpg
I was trying to draw a parallel between landfill indie and the wave of ambient music that was a thing during a brief period in the early 1990s when it was possible for Aphex Twin and Enya to appear on the front cover of Billboard at the same time:https://i.imgur.com/K6M5szS.png
So I must have been tangentally aware of them. The overall trajectory of their chart positions is a stark reminder of the fact that human beings do not become fully-formed until their thirties. The Christians is one of those bands that I only know of from the Now That's What I Call Music compilations, along with Hue & Cry - the compilers were convinced that they would be huge - and Sam Brown, Then Jerico etc.

Sly Fox and the Hustlers are some WRONG DUDE energy. Toying with the idea of commenting the Let's Go All the Way video on their facebook page, but I worry it would somehow lead to these dorks trying to cover it, badly.

Kinda bugs me that SOAD, a 100% nostalgia act, are headlining over Korn and Deftones, who are still putting out new albums (and in the case of Deftones, GOOD new albums). Also, I feel like Iggy should/could have been wedged in there somehow...

I dunno, Bonnaroo marketed to jam band kids with the idea that jam band kids have wide listening palattes. That audience didn't go anywhere I don't think
― Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 17 January 2023 16:30 (one year ago) link
a lot of large multi-day festivals just schedule a little bit of something for everyone instead of going down one specific lane. kills me when kids (including people up to early 20s here, now) complain that a main stage of a local festival is a snoozefest for the afternoon. that's when the middle aged and their small children just sit in a lawn chair and passively listen as their kids run around
― mh, Tuesday, 17 January 2023 16:30 (one year ago) link
maybe you're right but this doesn't seem inclusive so much as chaotic, especially wrt to billing placement. Tenacious D goes sixth? Noah Kahan ahead of Flaming Lips playing Yoshimi? And who ARE 50% of these acts? i recognize only five names in the bottom nine lines, i probably need to listen more. maybe there's a unifying theme of crunchy jam that is going over my head
― POLIZISTEN VERSINKEN IM SCHLAMM (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 17 January 2023 16:34 (one year ago) link
that all said, there's at least a full day of sets i would happily go to here
old people will see the Flaming Lips play earlier in the evening and leave before the young person act they've never heard of to beat traffic

vulfpeck is a jokey, chops-y, music school grad funk pastiche act, some discussion here: Vulfpeck - C/D?

i mean, if you're arguing "it's just two decade old bonnaroo refried" okay, but it's not the current bonnaroo by any stretch of the imagination!http://assets-global.website-files.com/63a1fbb20c336d8cd3d32415/63bd94401ea7fd37785c50ef_bonnaroo-2023-lineup-min-p-1600.png

ie you can pick roughly genre/generation amalgamated days for those dates in a way that echoland doesn't afford. i am now wondering who the current touring members of 3-6 are
― POLIZISTEN VERSINKEN IM SCHLAMM (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 17 January 2023 16:54 (one year ago) link
Bonnaroo has been bought by LiveNation and is basically a streaming numbers/tour booker clusterfuck.
This, however, is basically what you posted
