juggalos iirc?

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Wednesday, 8 February 2023 19:46 (one year ago) link

A little known fact: The term 'Juggalos' is derived from the 16th century jurist Henry Gallough, nicknamed Judge Gallows, who was known for frequently handing down sentences of death for the crimes of frolicking, clowning and drinking of an ale called Saygo.

INDEPENDENTS DAY BY STEVEN SPILBERG (President Keyes), Wednesday, 8 February 2023 19:56 (one year ago) link

this is a little hyperspecific, but is there a term for fans of J.S. Bach's Italian Concerto (as performed on the Piano)?

Yes, and fans of Steve Albini are called Albinos.

Fans of Los Lobos are called Loslobogos.

Fans of the Go-Gos... well, you know.

Auf Der Martini (Ye Mad Puffin), Wednesday, 8 February 2023 21:01 (one year ago) link

Personally the only subculture I'm a part of is fans of the 60s psychedelic rock band Blue Cheer.

Me and thousands of other Cheerios (as we're called) have an annual Gathering of the Cheerios.

I am curious about whether there are other bands whose fans have formed their own subculture.

Auf Der Martini (Ye Mad Puffin), Wednesday, 8 February 2023 21:05 (one year ago) link

Yeah, strange it hasn't been mentioned but the Grateful Dead have a pretty obsessive and insular fanbase known as Deadallos...

Don't know about ICP. But there's this band, Crazy Clown Crew or something? Mental Harlequin Gang? I forget. Anyway, their fans dress up like these insane clowns and have meet ups. I'll kick myself when I remember the name.

twizted is a band that you should check out their subculture

kurt schwitterz, Wednesday, 23 August 2023 16:09 (nine months ago) link

jmm, Wednesday, 23 August 2023 16:34 (nine months ago) link

What you got is a whole miserable subculture.

brimstead, Wednesday, 23 August 2023 16:35 (nine months ago) link

I know we're talking about music here, but it's interesting that subcultures also form around wrestlers. For instance, these guys: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professional_wrestling_career_of_Insane_Clown_Posse

Gwar is like wresting and music

kurt schwitterz, Wednesday, 23 August 2023 16:51 (nine months ago) link

Billy Corgan is a big wrestling guy, to the point of being a senior producer and talent developer for one wrestling fed and recently outright buying another.

Maxmillion D. Boosted (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 16:54 (nine months ago) link

I knew the feds had infiltrated wrestling

hardcore technician gimmicks are also another popular choice f (President Keyes), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 17:01 (nine months ago) link

Yeah, William P Corgan bought the IP related to the National Wrestling Alliance and they’re very much a third-division kind of deal. Plus he has that Fox News asshole Tyrus as his champion, which isn’t surprising given his own politics are suspect enough that he on Alex Jones as a guest more than once.

What's the deal with certain rich guys and wrestling, MMA, etc.

Clientless (Scooter's Version) (morrisp), Wednesday, 23 August 2023 17:36 (nine months ago) link

Bob Mould is also a big wrestling guy (he even worked for one of the big leagues at the end of the ’90s) but he doesn’t make it his whole personality.

I'm too lazy to look for it, but I swear an ilxor told a story about wandering through the outdoor patio scene when both Buffett and ICP were playing on the same night, and he overheard the pre-gaming Parrotheads obliviously cracking jokes, like "what are these clowns all dressed up for?"
