this astounding production by frequent hayden andre collaborator ron allen (strobe records, infra red) just got reissued on chiwax. sadly the rest of the ep is kinda generic strictly rhythm type stuff but this one really caught my attention

those are all superb. strobe 1-3 got reissued a few years back, those transcendance tracks are so versatile!
my absolute favorite hayden andre thing is subculture (FEAT. MARCUS), bit of a challenge to mix right but sooo good

this one rules but there are so many Ian B tunes that equally rule that can be picked up for peanuts. when something blows up because a hype DJ plays it, it totally mystifies me why it seems none (or very few) of the folk introduced to it go on to check out anything else that artist did. so weird.
anyway, Ian B should have legendary status in dance music. such a hero. RIP.
that Fred Giannelli track ^^ is great too. i don't think i'd heard anything he did post 2000s before.

aubrey so good, master of toms and other underused drums
i recently got a couple of aubrey records, iirc this one is from the mnml era and sort of uncharacteristic. reminds me of weirdo classix like low res - amuk
plural - shifting forward (aubrey rmx)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBXZR0WJgkU
also got this amazing 94 ep, full of youth and vigor. it’s on a label mostly associated with darren price so proggier and more upfront than you might expect. i think i posted this already but …

Stirmonster, just catching up...
that Ministry of Fear Track with No Name had me racking my brain for the sample, The Prince and the Wizard, The Wiz is a Genius. And the Euphoria vocal is Torch Song. Awesome.
I love Gianelli stuff. Always struck a chord even before I knew who he was. His Psychic TV stuff was some of my first introduction to "techno" and "house", gateway from industrial. Then in college we used to get the Telepathic releases as part of a radio promo service with plus 8/probe and others like that.
Now I follow him on facebook, and his "genesis p orridge survivors group" which is...interesting.

Discovering stuff from Fred Gianelli’s and Telepathic’s back catalogues has been one the best past-bobbins sources for me in the last year.
Also learned of this comp today: https://soundmetaphorsrecords.bandcamp.com/album/gonzo-goa-party-music-87-94

ah yes very good. sound metaphors is an excellent label. always been annoying to me that warp left the fuse track off “10+2 classics”.
above board projects also do a great job. i’ll probably skip that one but it’s nice to see the xeper track and it makes me hopeful that warp might finally manage some black dog productions reissues

X post. Ah yes, of course that is the sample source, Dan!
And you are right, Fred G is fairly obsessed with GPO and his time in PTV which sounds deeply traumatic. I know Fred a wee bit and can vouch that he is a lovely human being. Lots of great Telepathic releases. “Acid Didj” is an all time fave / floor clearer. Also his Kooky Scientist alter ego.
― stirmonster, Saturday, 3 June 2023 19:26 (one year ago) link
Seeing that group after reading Cosey's book def doesn't paint a great picture of GPO. ON the other hand I know a whole slew of people, ny music scene people who were very much in GPO's orbit and looked towards him as a real mentor, so who am I to say. Cosey's book was pretty damning though.
― dan selzer, Monday, 5 June 2023 01:43 (one year ago) link
I think she had to hold back on some stuff that was worse than anything that was revealed in the book. Fred's tales are pretty horrific too.
i do find it hard to listen to a lot of stuff Gen was involved with and really can't ever imagine listening to Persuasion again without feeling extremely uncomfortable. But, early PTV is pretty totemic for me so I'm still conflicted.

song really does what it says on the tin, right? every time you think "wow that's a really shitty sample" dj who rolls up with an even shittier one
if he can stretch that bs to 7.5 mins should be easy for someone to do a similar job on zomby's "need ur lovin", still surprised nobody has done yet done a bootleg edit of that one, would think it would be a no brainer in our current era
