i think hes an amazing musician but some of his programming is kinda zzzz. its kinda like 90s smooth jazz with someone soloing all over jazz+hip hop beats except hes just doing it with old 80s quiet stormy drum machines.

man, i got into some major beef with a jerk on ISM about Dam-Funk, where i said that his productions are excellent but his DJ sets are spotty. the guy attacked me for no reason, saying i had no right to diss such a great producer, and i was like, "dude, you can't read. if a guy train-wrecks again and again and again during a DJ set, i'm not going to lick his balls."

anyway, yeah, seen him live a few times, totally spotty. can be so damn good you drip just listening to it or so bad that you get 'tard tingles.

nice! he have the balls to say the truth! (the table is the table), Friday, 7 August 2009 23:55 (sixteen years ago)

tie looks good but jacket could be more fitted IMO

moonship journey to baja, Saturday, 8 August 2009 00:05 (sixteen years ago)

i dont give a shit abt 'trainwrecks' though

butthurt (deej), Saturday, 8 August 2009 00:07 (sixteen years ago)

he 'trainwrecks' all over the place on that BBC mix & its still my fav mix ive heard this year

butthurt (deej), Saturday, 8 August 2009 00:07 (sixteen years ago)

i loved it for the first hour i listened to it, then got a little bored second time, not sure I've even listened once since.

I for one welcome this new Nazi ILX (Local Garda), Saturday, 8 August 2009 00:08 (sixteen years ago)

not even a criticism necessarily...but that's what happened.

I for one welcome this new Nazi ILX (Local Garda), Saturday, 8 August 2009 00:08 (sixteen years ago)

i have to say his mixing was fairly tight last night and his "vocal stylings" were in key and on point ... i just found the selection of music he played to be much, much less compelling than what i've heard from toeachizown

moonship journey to baja, Saturday, 8 August 2009 00:09 (sixteen years ago)

everything he played sounded like a version of "atomic dog" minus the mids and treble, which is not the great thing it sounds like on paper

moonship journey to baja, Saturday, 8 August 2009 00:10 (sixteen years ago)

i like some of the vocal stuff except the part in the bbc one where he says something about "if a fella asks you to dance and you say no, i'm going to be annoyed." or something.

i mean seriously that's pretty creepy.

I for one welcome this new Nazi ILX (Local Garda), Saturday, 8 August 2009 00:11 (sixteen years ago)

blah blah blah 'i don't care about trainwrecks.' maybe true, but i do. if you're not going to do proper mixes, then just play the songs sans mixing. it will be much more pleasant that way, imho.

nice! he have the balls to say the truth! (the table is the table), Saturday, 8 August 2009 00:14 (sixteen years ago)

nah i find your techno purism about a dude spinning funny funk traxx and speaking into a mic over them to be silly

isnt the bbc mix only 30 mins long, ronan? are you talking abt something else?

butthurt (deej), Saturday, 8 August 2009 00:25 (sixteen years ago)

actually I mean the benji b one, I just called it bbc cos he's a bbc dj...

not sure what the winky face is about, but makes so much sense. i've got a buddy who's a record dealer, and friends w/dam and the stonesthrow crew, and all he deals in anymore is boogie and modern soul. told me he sold a boogie 7" for $4000.

jaxon, Saturday, 8 August 2009 20:17 (sixteen years ago)

one month passes...

omg, he's playing plastic people on 21 oct - CANNOT FUCKING WAIT to hear him on that soundsystem

"candy dancin" is my jam

one month passes...

can't wait for this shit to come out, bad live show aside ...

moonship journey to baja, Monday, 12 October 2009 21:01 (sixteen years ago)

the pic at the top of the thread changed right?

plies matters (J0rdan S.), Monday, 12 October 2009 21:10 (sixteen years ago)

when i saw him spin live it was super fun -- his stuff sounded better than the boogie he played tho

i got nothin (deej), Monday, 12 October 2009 21:25 (sixteen years ago)

his remix of that "i should tell ya momma on you" song is brilliant

lex pretend, Monday, 12 October 2009 21:28 (sixteen years ago)

alright what the fuck, i been banging vol 1 for months now and JUST REALIZED that there are like, four volumes? this shitty week is looking a bit better.

idyll of october 2009 (k3vin k.), Monday, 19 October 2009 16:43 (sixteen years ago)

"candy dancin'" is fucking epic

idyll of october 2009 (k3vin k.), Monday, 19 October 2009 16:43 (sixteen years ago)

the album's about to drop! only glanced at the tracklisting but it looks like it'll be comprised of all the eps...

interviewing this dude tomorrow :)

lex pretend, Monday, 19 October 2009 16:53 (sixteen years ago)

is his name pronounced damn funk or damn funkY

cos im sure its meant to be the latter but everyone says it the second way

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Monday, 19 October 2009 16:54 (sixteen years ago)

either way hes cool and everything but i still find it funny that people like annie mac play him but would prob never touch a freddie jackson record lol

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Monday, 19 October 2009 16:54 (sixteen years ago)

ok not that he sounds like freddie as such but oh never mind

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Monday, 19 October 2009 16:54 (sixteen years ago)

it's actually dame funk. cause his first name is damon. not sure if he realizes it makes him sound like a lady knight.

mizzell, Monday, 19 October 2009 16:58 (sixteen years ago)

dame? in that case he should def be dressing more imaginatively

i think id like him more if he dressed flamboyantly

old funk artists were so much more characterful

damn funk just seems like another beatnerd type, albeit with more of an 80s taste

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Monday, 19 October 2009 17:03 (sixteen years ago)

Listened to "Toeachizown 2" on my way home from work, not only excellent but lasted the exact same time as my journey as well

Roger Sánchez Broto (vain_bowers), Monday, 19 October 2009 17:04 (sixteen years ago)

the second EP is just insanely epic & amazing

so stoked about the fourth one dropping

burrhurt (J0rdan S.), Monday, 19 October 2009 18:11 (sixteen years ago)

dude has flyers up at some of the venues on this tour and i'm always tempted to call a sick week and stick around town for his set

k3vin k., Tuesday, 20 October 2009 16:45 (sixteen years ago)

moonship journey to baja, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 18:35 (sixteen years ago)

i could listen to flying v ride -> candy dancin' -> burn straight thru u all damn day

k3vin k., Tuesday, 20 October 2009 18:36 (sixteen years ago)

Hood Pass Intact IS unstoppable. unfortunately, i don't really find any of the other tracks on 'Hood' as compelling. but that track alone is just....damn.

I for one welcome Jordan's prior HitlerYouthisms as they got me into this. Hoping the proper album drops in time for me to convince everyone to make it "album of the week" on our "funk" episode of DAA.

Tim F, Thursday, 22 October 2009 23:23 (sixteen years ago)

Just grabbed the album now. As usual, I am two to three months behind ILM on everything. Perpetually sleeping. Missed seeing him in Montreal back in September at a tiny loft/club. Will smack myself in the head repeatedly for the next day or two.

Binkie & The-Dream: One is a Terius, the other's insAY!ne (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 23 October 2009 02:03 (sixteen years ago)

Is it still possible to track down those original EPs, though? It appears as though the tracks have been significantly shortened on the full-length album. Or am I misreading this information?

Binkie & The-Dream: One is a Terius, the other's insAY!ne (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 23 October 2009 02:17 (sixteen years ago)

really? it's being released as a 2CD and a 5LP...

k3vin k., Friday, 23 October 2009 02:19 (sixteen years ago)

as far as i know, the "album" is just the 5 EPs...

everybody loves am0n (J0rdan S.), Friday, 23 October 2009 02:20 (sixteen years ago)

http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=232433

Look at the track lengths. All I know is that my version of the title track is 2 minutes long and on the original EP it is apparently 5. This is not the only instance of this. Also, there are at least two tracks not on the full-length? Can't figure out which ones.

Binkie & The-Dream: One is a Terius, the other's insAY!ne (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 23 October 2009 02:21 (sixteen years ago)

But confused bitching about album/EP inconsistency aside, this is really something else.

(Oh, Tunnels is one of the missing trax)

Binkie & The-Dream: One is a Terius, the other's insAY!ne (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 23 October 2009 02:23 (sixteen years ago)

this is weird... kinda interested to hear the songs in that order, seems almost like a totally different album
