err most dream compositions sound like his because he has a very specific and identifiable formula

i feel like it must be demoralizing for lionel richie to do an album full of songs written by ne-yo and the-dream. or maybe he just laughs and says to them "y'know, i used to be you."

i don't think shaffer has quite the same ring as terius

the terius version is a better song but i think it 'works' better as a lionel richie track if that makes sense - the lyrics are so swathy ("the rain will turn into change") that it fits the sort of all encompassing AC dentist office blandness that richie brings

production sounds a bit undercooked but it's got a really good hook i think - chorus melody is great too

sometimes the original question becomes problematic for me.

"i'm not ok" is like top 5 dream-written songs of the year for me

and a question - does anyone know how dream+tricky divide their work? believe I read somewhere that dream writes vocal melodies & lyrics, and tricky does the musical soundscapes underneath.

i've been under the impression that dream does most of the "writing" and tricky does the production (tho dream does get co-production credit)

just listened to the "album sampler" and "can't wait to hate you" was on there. not sure if i've ever actually heard "h.a.t.e. u" so i can't say if they're the same.

i've never had the impression that Terius does any instrumental work or that Tricky has anything to do with the lyrics or vocal melodies. one's a producer and one's a songwriter, but since they're a team they just split up the credits more evenly.

yeah i think terius may have small hand in the production though, based on credits and that "making of 'my love'" youtube
