Every time I hear a Jr Walker song I think of the Saturday Night Live theme.
Anyway, my Motown picks are
Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart - Supremes...awful title but damn! a great song.
A Ghost In My House - R Dean Taylor...Northern Soul classic by a Motown songwriter
Needle In A Haystack - Velvelettes...why this wasn't a huge hit completely escapes me, I'm sure if the Supremes sang it it would have shot up to #1 no problem, but their version definitely wouldn't have been as good.
ABC/I Want You Back - Jackson 5...duh
Do You Love Me - Contours...duh
Got To Give It Up - Marvin Gaye...come on y'all, that's the best one, also, Can I Get A Witness is pretty groovy too
And pretty much anything upbeat by Stevie Wonder, I mean, Signed Sealed Delivered, Sir Duke, Uptight, For Once in my Life, Fingertips, Don't You Worry Bout a Thing, I could go on

For dancing, I like the more rock-beated stuff like the Four Tops' "7 Rooms of Gloom" and the Dells' "There Is." Agreed on that Velvelettes track!

The Meters, "Cissy Strut"
Rufus Thomas, "Memphis Train"
Marvelettes, "I'll Keep Holding On" (though I prefer the Action version, I admit)
"Needle In A Haystack" thirded - just heard it on One Kiss... and love it.

"Check Your Bucket" - Eddie Bo
"Cramp Your Style" - All Of The People featuring Robert Moore
"I Believe In Miracles" - The Jackson Sisters
"Brothers On The Slide" - Cymande
"Running Away" - Roy Ayers (or is this too close to disco for this thread?)
