On September 13th, StonerRock.com community member "Tariq" (real name Tariq Ali) went missing from his home in Midlothian, Illinois under very unusual circumstances.

wow, Midlothian is a very metal name for a town.

Shit, Midlothian is literally about 20 minutes away from where I work. Dated a girl from Midlothian for a short time, but that was like 7 years ago. I'll certainly keep my eyes peeled.

Ok wow, more like 45 minutes from where I work. I am way confused this morning.

Of course he could be anywhere in the chicago area and not just the town he's from.

so, what's cool on deathwish inc? I'm gonna pre-order the new converge and might pick up some other stuff.

don't really know too many of these bands. and I'm only gonna buy stuff on vinyl, I'm thinking.

i ordered the converge but think perhaps all the coloured vinyl sold out as it didnt give me a choice of colour. and the other estore selling it had no vinyl left at all. I guess most of them will end up on ebay too

no biggie for me. I don't really care about colored vinyl.

just order the jane doe double vinyl and then you're done! hahahaha!

my buddy played me a hope conspiracy album a few years ago. it was kind of middle-of-the-road.

god i hate their album covers. and t-shirts. i won't blame converge for metalcore, but can i blame them for metalcore's awful design sense? or do i just blame the dude from isis. or equal vision. i need to blame someone!

i loved the last hope conspiracy album. oh wait i said that already. kurt is my production god though. i will listen to anything he produces but really it was great. one of the best punk albums i've heard in years.

I would say isis have a slightly classier/more boring design sense than the spraypaint + giant font hell that is the deathwish inc. back catalog.

It's pretty early in the morning but the coffee is kicking in and it seems to be motivating me enough to write. Recent developments include:

Finally finished mixing the new Asva record 'Presences of Absences' and tonight drawing up some kind of a plan of how to release it. Nobody has heard this beast and I'm not sure a label would touch it... it sounds like a cross between Arvo Part (minus the orchestra) and Burning Witch (minus drums and vocals). Speaking as the guy who wrote and played it I love it; no idea if anyone else will though.

Speaking of Burning Witch: Edgy 59 and I have started a new adventure in listening; we're calling it 'The Poisoned Glass' and have so far recorded one song which we'll soon be posting a small section of on our page here at myspace.http://www.myspace.com/thepoisonedglass Falling Down has agreed to release it on the upcoming compilation and in the meantime we're going to go ahead and put together a full length. Its great playing with Edgy again; he sounds better than ever and our collaboration sounds absolutely chilling.

Having an old Venom day today. Black Metal / At War With Satan. Haven't played these in a really long time, and they're better than I remember.

I saw this morning there is some special edition of Black Metal that comes with a DVD of a show from the era. Tempting, but one of those $30 imports I can't really justify.

I just picked up a reissue LP of Black Metal. I traded away my original years ago for some die cast metal Shogun Warrior figures. LOL.

The 1st album on paradigms recordings was the best thing on the label.

The Gates of Slumber disc sounds really good so far, but not all that distinct from your average doom/stoner-type stuff to me. i like it fine, but can't really see why it's being praised to the skies; i mean, the second coming Sabbath it is NOT.

Every Time I Die is a great band. I think the new one is a bit cluttered but hits pretty hard anyway.

played last night with this BM band liturgy from brooklyn. they were good, nice too. did an elaborate gregorian kind of chant with the help of a loop station. they have an interesting style (imo, and i mean live -- i haven't heard their record yet and i don't know what it's like). a lot of weird pausing, but not like intricate bizarre timing/crazy stops or anything like that, just kinda like weird, heaving pausing before going back into a repetition or going into a change. thumbs up.
