and Kerr, I don't look at their reccomendations, I look at bands I like or users I know, and see what they're related to. Which sometimes brings the win and sometimes is just perplexing.

i've rarely used last.fm artist recommendations - it's v useful for finding out more about a band i don't otherwise know about (other songs by them, similar artists, general info...)

I think the biggest problem is that I've only got it scrobbling at work, where it's quite limited what I have, and what I listen to. If I add my home iTunes as well, then it will be more representative.

(Though top artists of Goldfrapp, Erkin Koray, The xx seems right. Christ, I listen to a lot of Goldfrapp. She's not someone I would ever put as a "top favourite artist" yet she seems to be some kind or aural comfort food I come back to again and again.)

Shit! i didn't realise that it would only import history from one iTunes. So it did my work iTunes, but not the home one, where I have the bulk of my listening. BAH. But I suppose that means I get a clean slate... ARGH, MY TASTE, MY BEAUTIFUL TASTE, IT'S ALL GONE.

i have no idea how itunes works but surely it should scrobble from any comp? i can scrobble from my pc and my laptop. Though i dont use itunes!!

anyway if you have lastfm installed at home now it should scrobble from now on

and i guess it will show a fairer representation of what you played this week rather than a years playing on itunes!

It says it's scrobbling, but nothing I've played in the past 20 minutes has turned up on it yet. :-(

Working on getting a free iPhone through work. But that would mean that I'd commit to stay at that awful place for another .... amount of time.

That said, I asked my boss "Can I install Spotify on my machine?" and he was all "go ahead" without even asking what it was. So it does have its many perks, this job.

you need a premium spotify account mind you for iphones. I think grimly might have it but hes a traitor in our eyes for abandoning scrobbling..

To what? Last.fm or Spotify? I might subscribe to Spotify if I end up using it loads. (Those ads are annoying, I had forgotten how annoying ads are, since I haven't had a telly in so long)

I am amazed any ILXors can be top listeners to anything, because last.fm works on some percentage-of-all-tracks-played algorithm which rules out being a top listener to anything if you've played more than a few thousand tracks.

(sometimes I get annoyed when I look up a band I like and find their top last.fm listener has played them like 3 times but has only played 60 tracks overall so is therefore worth more than me playing them 300 times)
