I just downloaded Geogaddi last night and I fell in lurve with it, which of course obviously meant that somebody would start slagging them on ILM as is the rule with stuff I recently have discovered (see also Interpol). I can only assume that "better than Boards of Canada" means "really really fucking grebt" as opposed to "really fucking grebt".

I find the lurve wears off (but don't listen to me)

Keith McD (Keith McD), Monday, 21 October 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

After a brief listen I am under the impression that Concentrick are not grebt -- "really", "fucking" or otherwise. Sorry.

Nate Patrin, Monday, 21 October 2002 00:27 (twenty-three years ago)

why do so many ilm threads lately read like their posters are looking for some kind of cosmic cookie?

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 21 October 2002 01:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Because we're writing like people talk! It's the new amazing wave of casual conversational whimsy disguised as discourse!
I wanna get some of that cosmic cookie action if it's got white chocolate and macadamia nuts.

Nate Patrin, Monday, 21 October 2002 02:35 (twenty-three years ago)

well, maybe not TRULY "grebt" but refreshing in that they do the Open University soundtrack without chickenshit recourse/retreat to goatee beard headnodding mid90s "triphop" / "ambient" / technopolitik bullshit, yeh man, roll me a fat one . just like i could say PLONE do it better but i wouldn't be sure if i meant it. Sure - the boards have their moments (orange romeda offa the warp compilation - GORGEOUS!!!) but they ain't never going to beat vangelis heaven & hell, now are they? ;-)

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread -- I tossed all my BoC in the garbage & now have some Concentrick on the way...appreciate the tip.

Mark (MarkR), Monday, 21 October 2002 16:37 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah how dare you have an opinion. yr right about oren ambarchi anyways. isn't hstencil drumm's chum?

bob zemko (bob), Monday, 21 October 2002 16:43 (twenty-three years ago)

wot you think of pimmon?

bob zemko (bob), Monday, 21 October 2002 16:44 (twenty-three years ago)

isn't hstencil drumm's chum?

We're friendly but now live in different cities. Irregardless of that, tho, his stuff is amazing and I'd think the same even if I wasn't friendly with him (thought that way before I met him, actually).

Pimmon's pretty good, I like the few things I have. Haven't gotten anything recent.

On a whole 'nother tip: I got To Live and Shave in L.A.'s The Wigmaker... double CD this weekend, and it's one of the most phenomenally fucked things I've ever heard. Probably will take a few good years just to process it. Highly recommended.

hstencil, Monday, 21 October 2002 18:21 (twenty-three years ago)

i have to say again i was disappointed with what i heard of pimmon (about 2 cds worth) nice atmospheres, yes, but he'll just string them out for 10 mins apiece w/ no development. TLASILA's WIGMAKER is the bomb! and wussy wussy you if you don't like concentrick and i hurt someone's feelings cos boards of canada feel their pain. i could toss off a boards track in my fuckin sleep. get a machine and do it yoreself - there's no need for this weepy fucken hero worship. they sequence tunes - they've got a recipe for it - get over it!

bob snoom, Tuesday, 22 October 2002 08:10 (twenty-three years ago)

I still haven't heard concentrick but it's one of those things on the "to hear" list.

hstencil, Tuesday, 22 October 2002 12:58 (twenty-three years ago)

schlammpeitziger are good too

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 22 October 2002 13:16 (twenty-three years ago)

actually - i've changed my mind now. not that i like the boards that much, still...

bob snoom, Wednesday, 23 October 2002 08:08 (twenty-three years ago)

(mark heads for the bins anxiously)
