This amazes me; it really does.. but apparently the NYC and Providence shows in late November will go - Black Dice, Sonic Youth, and the bolt headlining.

Weird.

wuh? can i see some documentation on that, please?

the Bal'mer show looks to be SY w/ Liars, so this doesn't really effect me anyways.

I was told this by Brian Chippendale last night; he was really weirded out by talking to Thurston; he doesn't like being famous.

I can't find anything about it written online, but there may be something about it in the next few days either on the Load Records site or the Sonic Youth page. I'll let you know if I find anything.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Next they'll be opening for a Alice in Chains tribute band at your local corner bar. And only 12 people will show up.
But in the end, this might be a good thing. Some bands actually thrive when they sink back into obscurity. Look at Pearl Jam.
Hahahahahahaha.
Okay, lets NOT look at Pearl Jam.

(These are the 11/23 [Providence] and 11/30 [NYC/Irving Plaza] shows, by the way.)

no and no

SONIC YOUTH IS A MORE POPULAR BAND SO THEY'D OBVIOUSLY BE LISTED ON TOP.

BUT THEY COULD PLAY IN THAT ORDER.

AND IAN DID TALK TO CHIPPENDALE.

Okay so why aren't Lightning Bolt Playing Saturday the 22nd in Northampton,MA : (. Ian tell Brian that this Bryan is ready to book them outhere in Western MA anytime : )

brg30 (brg30), Saturday, 19 October 2002 20:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Hmmmm.

I've heard that they are NOT playing in the bathroom now.

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Monday, 21 October 2002 11:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Sonic Youth are the headliners and will get paid the most, but Lightning Bolt will play last. After all, no one wants to play after Lightning Bolt. It makes sense.

^Diego^ (dhadis), Monday, 21 October 2002 13:32 (twenty-three years ago)

I wonder if Lightning Bolt is going to pick up the beat of the end of Sonic Youth and just launch into their set. This is really cool.

BUT TOO MANY 90'S-OBSESSED ROCKERS WILL BE CLAPPING!

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Monday, 21 October 2002 13:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I've been told the same. And apparently the venues were throwing a fit with Thurston for SY's desire to be the opener. Odd.

Black Dice appears to be opening before Sonic Youth.

3 bands that don't like being rock stars

While, yeah, Black Dice don't want to be rock stars they've also stated on numerous occasions a desire to break into a wider audience outside of the hardcore scene. (Which they've done, so hurray for them.)

Ian Johnson (orion), Monday, 21 October 2002 22:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Prediction: Black Dice gets into the rave scene.

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Monday, 21 October 2002 22:55 (twenty-three years ago)

one month passes...
So, did anyone see these shows on the 22nd or the 30th? How'd they go?

^Diego^ (dhadis), Monday, 2 December 2002 14:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I went to the one on the 23rd and LB totally blew SY out of the water, both to me and from my assesment of the crowd reaction. There's a bootleg floating around of White Cross with Lightning Bolt playing along. So cool.

How was NYC?

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Monday, 2 December 2002 15:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So were Lightning Bolt pulled around on a raft above the crowd? Or did they have three other band splay their songs with them?

And how did Black Dice go over?

^Diego^ (dhadis), Monday, 2 December 2002 15:52 (twenty-three years ago)

black Dice inspired a lot of ear holding and gentle rocking

lots of people tlaking shit on them

lb played in the corner

lb played in the corner

Matt Brinkman was a guest member for the show, and he added analog death screeches and noise to their set.
