i watched "topsy turvy" tonight with the english captions on and they transcribe everything, because they figure the only person who's watching them on DVD has some sort of hearing loss. you get long stretches of "audience applause" "mutters" "mumbles". when someone sings they put little eighth notes around the words to signify that the words are sung, not spoken. please impart your best description of what these little note thingies mean, dear readers.

Actually, all of the deaf people I know really like music - as long as there's a strong emphasis on bass/rhythm, anyone can 'hear' it.

100 years ago I would have put their hands on my throat while I talked and then I would have sung, maybe that would work in a way. Now: bass bins.
