Money for old rope or 'spreading love' for true fans?

Why do so many artists who have only been around for five minutes release multiple version of the same album within months of the original release?
e.g. Alicia Keys' 'Songs In A Minor'
There are already THREE version of this CD available and it's not even TWO years old.

Compare and contrast to MJ's 'Off The Wall'. Surely huge cash-cow potential but they only released an alternate version in 2001, 22 years and a zillion copies sold after the 1979 original.
At least the likes of Linkin Park (and even P Diddy) remixed their whole goddamn albums before stuffing it out again.

Same scamming goes for DVD releases with Director's Cut coming out weeks after the mass market version.

Bastards. They gets no love.

(sorry, this should probably be in 'I Hate...')

And what about rich bastards like David Bowie releasing three different versions of a single, all with different non-album b-sides?
