I am over 38 and know the heck out of U2. First concert! Joshua Tree tour at the Spectrum in Philly. I still have the t-shirt. A friend borrowed it for an '80s themed party. I thought it kind of lame that he would wear a U2 shirt to an '80s party, but I guess it *was* the '80s, so...

20 is too young. you need to be able to remember a time when U2 weren't irredeemably corny, which either happened with rattle and hum or with zooropa, so i guess better terminals would be 35 or 40 respectively (it was rattle and hum tho)

龜 I am about the same age as you and the first time I remember being aware of U2 was when they appeared in the 200th episode of the Simpsons, were you familiar with U2 before this/did their Simpsons appearance have a big impact on how you thought of them?

U2 were at a pretty low ebb when that Simpsons episode aired, though; Pop was tanking, and the ABC-TV special promoting the tour was the lowest-rated non-news show in the history of US television.

Like I also don't really know the Beatles

Have downloaded their discography at least 3 times

But never made it past the first two albums

And I know the first two were not the ones that everybody else rates

But even then I know some of the classics

Like "Lucy in the sky with diamonds" or "Come all over me"

U2, otoh, it looks like the only one I /really/ know is Beautiful Day

If you are determined to go through the Beatles in some kind of chronological order, probably start with Rubber Soul.

It's the first one where sequencing seems to be much more than an afterthought.
