Because songs Ive had stuck in my head:
Journey - Any way you want it
Vanilla Ice - Ninja rap
Puddle of Mudd - ...that new Smells Like Teen Spirit rip off song they have... about hate or something...

Now, these songs haunt me and I dislike having them in my head, nevertheless, it is a hopeless battle and they remain everstuck in my mind. Did these songs accomplish their goal?

I had "Don't Look Back In Anger" in my head for a couple of days recently, so my answer is no.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 01:23 (twenty-three years ago)

no.

Those songs were written with two goals in mind:

A. Getting Chicks

B. Making Money

The symptoms you are experiencing are the unpleasant side-effects of goals A and B.

was it the whole ninja rap or just the 'go ninja go ninja go!' bit?

If you're the guy stuck inside Kylie's head, does that make you good?

Oh god, I hear yer - there's a phrase for that round these parts: The Curse Of Livid! (along with dust poisoning of course)

No. Music is only good if you enjoy the act of listening / dancing / whatever to it. Some people can't get rid of acne, but that doesn't make it visually pleasant.

I've had that Coral song in my head for like, a week now. And I'm so confused I don't know whether I like it or not, I just keep finding myself belting out while walking round the house.

If you can keep yourself from buying the record, the music terrorists have not won.

james, Wednesday, 23 October 2002 15:24 (twenty-three years ago)

It makes it effective.

Chris I decided the Coral song was good after experiencing similar symptoms, it's also the first 'indie' record Isabel has liked in about five years!!

"i've got Vannessa Carlton & Santana's 'Little Bit Of This, Little Bit Of That' in my head today...could be worse tho "

error of the year.

Lenny = white
Carl = black

Vanessa = piano
Michelle = guitar

Try humming a few bars of "Walking on Sunshine" and then NOT having it stuck in your head for the rest of the day.

Fuck you, Sean. Fuck you.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 17:19 (twenty-three years ago)

its a good quality for a song to have.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 17:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, Julio, but we know you're only saying that because you LOVE JOURNEY.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 17:38 (twenty-three years ago)

I've always defined pop music as music where the purpose is to be as catchy as possible (as opposed to rock music, where the purpose is to rock as hard as possible), so to me, if a song gets stuck in your head, it's a good pop song. Obv. this is a rather broad definition of pop music, but it works as well as any.

Nick A., Wednesday, 23 October 2002 18:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I have the new Nirvana on my mind.

, Wednesday, 23 October 2002 20:23 (twenty-three years ago)

''Yeah, Julio, but we know you're only saying that because you LOVE JOURNEY.''

yes JOURNEY has shown me the way.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 20:38 (twenty-three years ago)

I remember reading an interview with Steve Albini saying that Private Dancer is really good for knocking those annoyingly catchy tunes out of your head. Apparantly its because its really "shapeless"...

Matthew (faster), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 20:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Obviously S.Albini is chronically incapable of writing anything that might do the job himself.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 22:18 (twenty-three years ago)

it doesnt work i just tried it and i still have a stupid nursery rhyme in my head.
