Greatest live moments Never experienced

That includes gigs you wish you'd been at and gigs which don't exist but should and you wish did.

In the former I'd put Subway Sect and the Clash in 1977/78; as well as Joy Division in 79 or 80. All the more frustrating, having been around at the time - but in Devon. Did hitch to Futurama 2, though.

In the latter, I guess I'll not be alone in suggesting XTC after Skylarking, Apples and Oranges or Apple Magic Vol 1; or Scott Walker anytime in the last 20 years.

richard h. kirk has aged well.

michael wells (michael w.), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 13:27 (twenty-three years ago)

with regard to the 'gigs that never existed' aspect, Cabaret Voltaire (sheffield branch) SUPPORTING Cabaret Voltaire (Zurich branch) would be rather fine. Not sure if the electrics c 1915 could stand it though.

jon (jon), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 13:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Saw mbv, the mondays and jane's addiction all around 89/90 and all kicked bottom.
I'd have to agree about Dylan at Manchester Free Trade Hall as a 'wish I was there', but would you give the bloke who shouted "Judas" a slap? Or pre-empt him? You could mess with the forces of history by getting involved there.

James Ball (James Ball), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 13:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 13:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 17:28 (twenty-three years ago)

That'd be "reet," Julio. You have any of the recent reissued material?

hstencil, Wednesday, 23 October 2002 17:35 (twenty-three years ago)

for no particular reason I skipped going to see Moe Tucker in the early nineties. It turned out she had Sterling Morrison playing with her. Then he died.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 17:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Sex Pistols at Winterland. You'd get to see R. Meltzer hazing the crowd, Johnny Rotten get pelted with cameras and combs, Darby Crash in the front row screaming like a teenybopper for Sid, Legs McNeil standing to one side muttering "This band SUCKS!", 6-year-old Winona Ryder running around the floor surreptitiously picking people's pockets, and Greil Marcus skulking along with a wild look in his eye thinking about smashing kids.

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Wednesday, 23 October 2002 19:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Poppy (poppy), Thursday, 24 October 2002 01:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Charles Mingus, Velvet Underground, Stooges, Doors, MC5, NY Dolls, Television with Richard Hell, Heartbreakers, Richard Hell & The Voidoids, Buzccocks with Howie, Magazine (just can't work out how I never managed to get to see them!) but most of all CAPTAIN BEEFHEART.

I was lucky enough to see Subway Sect and the Clash in 1978, as well as Joy Division in 79 and 80 - not to mention XTC when they were still gigging, Dexys, Throbbing Gristle, This Heat, The Birthday Party.... sometimes, not very often but sometimes, it's GOOD to be this old!

hstencil, Thursday, 24 October 2002 15:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Stewart - Actually not sure I wanted to see XTC when they were still gigging, I've always found their early stuff a bit lumpen. It's the later stuff I'd love to hear live.

Yes, the Birthday Party were a great gig. At least I got that one.

jon (jon), Thursday, 24 October 2002 16:08 (twenty-three years ago)
