Stedman was on Pointless Celebrities (heh) recently and he looked so weird and android-ish. I kinda like "Find The Time".

The Slightest Touch! There were some good Shep Pettibone mixes on the 12" too.

they seem oddly forgotten about, considering how big they were for a time, not part of the story of British pop in the 80s that gets told.
amazed to find out that Stedman is 50

I would be curious to know what American ilxors made of them, watching their videos there always seemed to be this ambience of provincial Britishness about them regardless of how glossy the whole undertaking was, not 2nd rate exactly, but not quite the genuine article? I don't know if it only seemed that way from a UK perspective though

i dunno what part Stedman's public indecency conviction played in the drop-off over here. i also felt that provincial thing at the time but looking back the ish is really that they're a pop group tinged with r'n'b rather than vice versa, so some sweet tunes but not much in the way of outright jams

oddly forgotten about

They're a mid 80s Bucks Fizz, more a commercial entity than artistic.

I don't remember the indecency charge. I think they were over shortly after they declared bankruptcy.

wackness unlimited (snoball), Saturday, 8 November 2014 15:42 (nine years ago) link

ie before the indecency charge ever came to light

wackness unlimited (snoball), Saturday, 8 November 2014 15:43 (nine years ago) link

Also between the bankruptcy and the indecency charge, Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation cam out, which was like this is how you do R&B flavoured pop, and more or less ended Five Star's chance at a comeback in that period.

I do quite like a lot of these, but I really like 'System Addict'
