Am I the only one who sees this?

I don't see it. I mean, not that the line is so fine that there is no division, but that there is anyway these two bands could possibly be taken as shoring up against one another. the divide between them is post-Pangeaic, huge. Phish peddles virtuouso wank, and GY!BE (mind the name change, those exclamation marks are itinerant, apparently) do something else, maybe not mutually exclusive, but dissimilar enough to elicit this kneejerk reaction. Particularly early GY!BE, as heard on F# A# infinity.

I seriously thought you meant

The fine line between GYBE and PISH!

and then

These two bands could possibly be taken as snoring against one another.

But then I realised that i'd just misread

I'd equate that line with the Great Wall of China.

1. Phish fans are the one who nearly kill the band with their oder.
2. G!Y!B!E! are the ones who kill their fans with bad order and rapid 11 man chainsmoking action.

3. G!B!!YE!!! are one of the most amazing things to code to.

GYBE! doesn't improvise. When compared to Phish, this is a good thing.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 25 October 2002 16:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i think when GYBE start improvising they might get interesting. isaid 'might'.

I'd love to hear an improvised glockspeil solo.

have we talked about how everytime I read GYBE, I think Gaye Bikers on Acid?

Godspeed are one of the most brilliant bands. They don't have to pull 'pop-star blink 182' antics when on stage. They come, they play, they are beautiful and one of the most emotional shows that I have ever witnessed. Keep On!!!

They don't have to pull 'pop-star blink 182' antics when on stage.

For some, this is the problem.

gybe! certainly do improvise... or if they don't improvise, then they must have a huge stockpile of variations for each song, because the songs are seldom (if ever) the same from performance to performance...

The truly improvised Godspeed can be heard when listening to "Set fire to Flames" They locked themselves in an apartment for 5 days with a sound tech, and improvised.

Heh...did the sound tech slip a pizza under the door? or did they go hungry?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 27 October 2002 17:03 (twenty-three years ago)

i have the set fire to flames cd... and i read about the locking themselves in the house thing... but i don't know if i buy it... i mean... where did they get the samples of the crazy bums? unless they brought some bums in with them... that seems kind of cruel, though...

''unless they brought some bums in with them... that seems kind of cruel, though...''
