Why can't mainstream critics get over the fact that the new Sigur Ros album is called ( ) and has no song titles?

Seriously, these people have major bugs up their arses. They seem to be spending most of their reviews just saying how pretentious the band are for trying to distance the listener from the band and bring them closer to the music, which seems to be a noble goal in my book. Stupid mainstream critics. Stupid.

Ive tried downloading Sigor Ros songs, and I just cant get into them. People tell me I need to listen to a whole album... is that true?

David Allen, Thursday, 24 October 2002 22:30 (twenty-three years ago)

If you have to listen to the whole album to "get it", it's not worth getting. It's certainly not true for the last Sigur Ros album. Listen to it full and, instead of hearing one boring song you can't get into, you hear LOTS of boring songs you can't get into.

edward o (edwardo), Thursday, 24 October 2002 22:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Hehe, well you probably just don't like Sigur Ros David. I got into them by hearing one song on its own. I don't think you really need to hear a whole album, although I'd recomend you do that anyway simply because they're great.

Callum (Callum), Thursday, 24 October 2002 22:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, they are great. And you're right Callum, of the 2 reviews that I've seen so far they do harp on the the title (or lack of) and blank track listing. Still, both reviews were positive, so that's at least something.

It just shows that these critics aren't real fans of the group, because any REAL fan knows that the tracklisting is : 1) Vaka 2) Fyrsta 3) Samskeyti 4) Njosnavelin 5) Allafos 6) Ebow 7) The Death Song 8) The Pop Song

Hey Callum, I see from your e-mail address that you must be a Tool fan. Well, there aren't many fans of either band around here, so beware the haters.

Brenya, Thursday, 24 October 2002 22:51 (twenty-three years ago)

keeping it REAL

keith (keithmcl), Thursday, 24 October 2002 22:56 (twenty-three years ago)

is 'the pop song', like, a real proper pop song, because i love
'svefnenglar' or whatever it's called - i mean LOVE it, and am waiting to hear another song by them that i'll really like - which one should i go 4 ? the pop song ?

piscesboy, Thursday, 24 October 2002 23:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't let the h8rz get me down. I'm used to it. I'm surrounded by nu-metal kids and drum'n'bass fans. Do you have ANY conception of how difficult it is liking homosexual Icelandic dream-rock bands when you're 15?

Callum (Callum), Thursday, 24 October 2002 23:02 (twenty-three years ago)

The Nothing Song is my favourate of the new ones, but The Pop Song is good too. Hell, they're all good.

Callum (Callum), Thursday, 24 October 2002 23:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, the Pop Song is a beauty (especially the ending!), but my favorite so far is Fyrsta. I love that beautiful drone effect that they've added to it. The Death Song is my second favourate. I think it's the most melancholy and intense think that they've done yet. But They're all really good, though.

I've had these songs for about a year or so through live bootlegs, but it's good to finally get proper studio versions of them. Compared to "Agaetis..." this new one is much more darker and sad. Almost goth, really.

Brenya, Thursday, 24 October 2002 23:38 (twenty-three years ago)

they keep mixing it up with sugar ray like me.

ddd, Friday, 25 October 2002 00:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm a huge Tool fan, Callum, so don't worry, you've got allies here. :-) How many times have you caught them on the recent tours, if you've been so lucky? Alas, I really don't think much of Sigur Ros at all -- I acknowledge their ambition, but neither they nor Godspeed really do much for me, at least not as much as other bands have done.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 25 October 2002 01:38 (twenty-three years ago)

FWIW, those of you who found Agaetis unbearably dull will find ( ) to be even moreso. Just a hunch.

Speaking as someone who really likes Sigur Rós my initial impression is that everything between 1 and 8 kinda formlessly bleeds together in my head. And I don't mean that in a good way.

gazuga (gazuga), Friday, 25 October 2002 06:31 (twenty-three years ago)

he returns! at long last! YES!

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 25 October 2002 06:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Matos, I think it is not the same Calum. This is two L 15 year old Callum, and that was one L twat Calum.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Friday, 25 October 2002 07:02 (twenty-three years ago)

but...but...but...DAMN IT!

M Matos (M Matos), Friday, 25 October 2002 07:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Callum can you clear this important point up?

Tom (Groke), Friday, 25 October 2002 07:55 (twenty-three years ago)

There's nothign wrong with Tool, but they're not the best band in the world for merchandising. I mean, do you really want to walk down a street with "TOOL" written on your tee-shirt?

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 25 October 2002 07:57 (twenty-three years ago)

What's the deal with the ubiquitous Tool t-shirt anyway? My friend used to run a club, and we'd notice that almost every night, someone would have a Tool shirt on (like the Metallica shirt in the late 80s). So we ran a contest - the 100th person to come in wearing a Tool t-shirt would win. The prize, of course, was a Tool t-shirt. I have a photo of the lucky winner; confetti was involved.

Sigur Ros should be listened to with headphones, lying prone on a bed, on a Saturday afternoon, while partially conscious.

Ernest P., Friday, 25 October 2002 13:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Part of the genius of Tool is the subversive advertising. One of the best band t-shirts ever is the Tool shirt with thte dick-shaped wrench on it.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 25 October 2002 13:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Or going to bed with on Friday night.

New ILM convention, Prog Rawk Fridays!

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 25 October 2002 13:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I still am freaked out by that video.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 25 October 2002 13:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I like Sigur Ros very much but refuse to pay $30.25 for a ticket at Avalon to see them. Plus I can't get anyone to go with me :( I'm excited about this album, just hope im not disappointed.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 25 October 2002 14:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Does () still sound like dolphins fucking?

Yancey (ystrickler), Friday, 25 October 2002 14:56 (twenty-three years ago)

What's the deal with the ubiquitous Tool t-shirt anyway?

It's a sign of greatness, obviously.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 25 October 2002 15:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Every time I saw one of those shirts, I just nodded and said "yup", but maybe that's just a reflection of the Tool fans in my old hometown.

As for (), still haven't heard it, and can't wait.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Friday, 25 October 2002 16:12 (twenty-three years ago)

It doesn't sound like dolphins fucking. It sounds more like... I dunno... space-angels fucking.

And no, I'm not your little one l'd Calum. I'm a new Callum. With two l's.

I've never really seen any advertising for Tool. They're actually pretty small in the UK, they're no-where near as famous as they are over in the US. But I'd like to see one of those penis t-shirts...

Callum (Callum), Friday, 25 October 2002 16:23 (twenty-three years ago)

''It sounds more like... I dunno... space-angels fucking.''

now THAT'S lazy journalism!!!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 25 October 2002 16:33 (twenty-three years ago)

How is it lazy?

Callum (Callum), Friday, 25 October 2002 23:46 (twenty-three years ago)

how isn't it?

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 26 October 2002 01:47 (twenty-three years ago)
