and WHY do these songs seem to require such extensive remixing? is it precisely because the original versions of all were such classics, prompting the labels to feel they could milk them for as much cash as possible?

what about on the hip hop or 'urban' side? i'm thinkin a lot of those 'P Diddy featuring 20 other people' tracks must get remixed to shit too

no remix of 'Cafe Del Mar' will top the original 3 In 1 edit...i know its not really the objective to supersede the original by remixing but i still question the point from an artistic point of view, esp. with great dance tracks like that

now i have to confess i didnt know it first came out in '93 - shiiit, here lies a reputation in tatters

it quite depresses me tho that there's probably so little actual variation in all those remixes other than in the Michael Woods mix which i think is beatless isnt it, thus turning it more into a sprawling comedown epic as opposed to the euphoric ascending structure of the 'originals'

What about all those different versions of 808 State's "Pacific"? I tried to count them all but I worried that at least some of the ones discogs lists with different titles but the same length might be the same, not that any of them sound much different to me. Probably still doesn't beat Cafe del Mar or Papua New Guinea, though.

Favourite excessive alternative mix moment: ETA's Casual Sub single cd version - don't know about the vinyl one, would seem a bit pointless - featured the "33 or 45 mix" and the "45 or 33 mix", which, well, y'know.

I'd expect most of the 1996/1997 Dominator remixes to be archetypical Rotterdam hardcore, but I'm very interested what people like Michel De Hey and Vincent De Moor have done with it on the 1998 remixes. The 2002 remixes are all hardstyle, from what I've heard.
