COURT IN THE ACT (working title)
Each week an outspoken star in music is called up to a defendant box and effectively stands trial for whatever accusations the prosecutor (ideally a well-informed music critic of sorts and one not particularly enamoured with the defendant) throws at them based on criticism received for recent crap album, controversial political statements, uncivil/unsocial behaviour etc. - the artist defends themselves (if they can) accordingly. the motivation for the artist would be it gives them a 'soapbox' and a chance to win the viewers favour by setting the record straight on vaious issues, thus increasing record sales or whatever...altho if they fail to argue successfully their reputations could be severely damaged - either way potentially fascinating viewing
suggestions for 'defendants'
Show One: Moby
Show Two: Megaman (So Solid Crew)
Show Three: Damon Albarn
Show Four: Courtney Love
SHow Five: Madonna
Show Six: Liam Gallagher
obv the big draw would be Eminem but lets be realistic ;) other possiblities would be Elephant Man, Ian Brown, Stuart Braithwaite, Jason Pierce...you get the idea
would it work? probably not...but for artists who feel their careers are in need of a boost it could be potentially very beneficial - and any artist worth their salt should be prepared to address criticism if warranted, and it might provoke some real passion for a bloody change, esp. if there's no sycophantic presenter around to toss predictable inane questions their way
obviously its quite cynical and hostile towards our beloved popstars but hey why not?

i think there could be something substantial to gain thru the TV medium that magazine interviews can never really provide

then they'd lose their case and be thrown in jail pending medical approval, hahar

Yes, I think this is just what TV needs.

I think this is a fantastic idea. Seems to me that Courtney and Moby would definitely go for it cuz they're always defending themselves till purple in the face anyway.
I'm always surprised that there aren't any decent music-related tv programs (not sure about over in the UK), especially with the 200 channels now in existence over cable. I've often thought about trying to put together a show... doesn't seem like it would really be all that hard.

alternatively what i'd like is to see some kind of format matching the recent Jo Whiley series in the UK except do away with her and just get 5 or 6 different artists into a room every week with some fags, booze n snacks and just let them chat bollocks for an hour or two - edit this and stick it on late night Wednesdays...maybe you'd need a referee of sorts - i'd nominate Zane Lowe altho even he is probably still too sycophantic so maybe someone like Johnny Cigarettes or another hard nosed hack can arbitrate...someone who's prepared to spit and shout 'you're WRONG' at Megaman or Liam if they say something liable for fierce argument

''then they'd lose their case and be thrown in jail pending medical approval, hahar''
i reckon they'd all plead insanity and get off.

1. Sinead O'Connor, 2. Lars from Metallica, 3. David Bowie, 4. Genesis P., 5. Bono.
They all have a lot to answer for.
