90s INSTRUMENTAL (mostly)

I think this is from the late 90s, BUT it could be 80s...or even early 2000s This is a song heard in a store over their music system in 2000-2002. They used the Westwood One service.

Urban sounding song with a strong beat. Mostly instrumental....except for a few times where a guy speaks a few lines. Sketchy memory, but I remember him saying "North South East West"...although it could have been in a different order. And I think he says "Let's go get Sally"....but that could be totally wrong!

This song is driven by a piano riff (repeating over and over). Strong drums....almost hip-hop-ish drums...BUT NOT REALLY. Kinda funky, but really more urban. When the guy speaks, it is done in that compressed sound....like you're hearing him over the telephone.....know what I mean? And it's spoken in cadence: "North South East West....da da Da da DA da DA...."

I have included a dropbox link to an mp3 of me trying to play the melody on a piano. I am not a musician and do not have perfect pitch. The song could be in a different key or I could be a little off. I am not musical at all. But this is the general melody and the cadence of the riff.

Been looking for this one since 2002. I will be forever indebted to anyone who can help with this! This is my last "holy grail".

Thanks for your effort. Genuinely. I have to think you're joking, though, right? That's a kids song....not a gritty, urban instrumental from the 90s.

Good one, mate! Cheers!

The search continues!

This thread IS about an instrumental song from the 90s. I can't tell if this is a genuine attempt to help or the work of jokesters. It seems like someone is posting anything with the keywords in the title, oblivious to whether it matches the very thorough description. I also get a sense that these are purposely lame songs posted with sarcasm or teasing. (A kids' song? A polka song? Seriously?)

I'm confused. I have had great luck with other forums, but perhaps I was wrong to look here.

dwsiddall, Tuesday, 18 August 2015 01:30 (three years ago) Permalink

Other forums already told you which song it is?

help computer (sleepingbag), Tuesday, 18 August 2015 01:39 (three years ago) Permalink

<sigh> No. I have had good luck on other forums looking for other songs. People have been eager and genuinely helpful. I have found many songs this way. This is my last remaining "holy grail" and I am branching out to other forums in hopes of finding someone who recognizes this tune.

Great songs, still not the elusive one. It's faster and driving. Very urban sounding.

Perhaps reviving three threads in a row before finally taking a minute to figure out how to make your own is not the most endearing entrée.

MaresNest. I made a mistake using a new forum I was unfamiliar with. I immediately posted below them to indicate it was a mistake. If I could have deleted the incorrect post, I would have.

People like you who troll through posts pointing out and ridiculing other people's mistakes are the kind of people who make forums like this unpleasant. You are an ass-clown. I would punch you in the face if you were standing in front of me. I would.

I bet you are the kind of peice of $hit that would answer someone's post with "Gee, bro. I don't know." Because you strike me as a person who has to butt in even if you have nothing to offer. And you clearly have nothing to offer. You are a waste of oxygen.

Please disregard the request to name this tune. You all are far too idiotic to possibly have anything of value to contribute.

Have fun circle-jerking, fucktards!

Eazy....gosh, if you don't know what "urban" means when talking about musical genres, you need to pack it up and go jump off a bridge. But I know that you really do know exactly what it means and were just being a sarcastic asshole, like everyone here.

I contrast this with my experiences over at AllTheLyrics forum where I have been helped dozens of times finding songs and where I have helped dozens of people find their songs. Night and day.

It's quite uncanny to find such a concentrated collection of total fucktards all in one place.

eleven months pass...

"fyi i found that in about 30 seconds by googling "north south east west trip hop" so i'm not sure who's the fucktard here"

Uhhh....who cares what you found in 30 seconds of Googling....if IT'S NOT THE RIGHT THING!! I think you have definitively proven who the fucktard is.

If this could be found by "Googling", then it would have been found already. The whole point of this post (and this site, I am guessing) is for people who have tried searching and have come up empty and are now looking for people to search their BRAINS and PAST EXPERIENCES to find someone who might know something.

Get that? The original request wasn't made so that a bunch of fucktards could go on Google and type in the search words and say, "Here it is" and feel like some sort of hero. If that's how you think this works, I will wager you are a "millennial"...the worst kind of fucktard that just sits and waits for the world to fall in his lap.

No. The original post was a call-out to people who still use their brains. If that's not you, then ignore this post and leave it for people who do to answer. If your only contribution is, "I looked it up on Google" then you have the mentality of a 3 year old and should go get a stuffed animal to play with and leave the rest of us to the task at hand.

I honestly don't know how I became the bad guy here. I posted a request for a song, and got responses that were either jokes (a kids' song? seriously?!) or purposeful attempts to be jerky.

I appreciate the few that made a genuine effort to be helpful (devilock, chock full of love)....and I will just say nothing about those who chimed in for no other reason than to be hateful....or worse, jump on the bandwagon.

Still searching for this song.

I feel your pain, dwsiddall! 10 or 15 years ago ilxor was a serious message board for serious musical discussions, and thanks to our music industry connections, you would have had the combined staffs of P4K, Stylus, and AMG working 'round the clock to identify your mystery track. But nowadays civil, intelligent discourse is apparently unhip, and the name of the game is who can deploy the "dankest" memes and who can launch the most "savage" attacks against well-meaning newcomers like yourself. sadly, at this point you would probably get a more respectful response from 4chan or k1wifarms than from the self-hating hypstercrites of "I Love Music"! 😟😞😡😢😒
