Limited Editions for Special Eds

I've been thinking about getting the Limited Edition CCR Box Set (individually numbered wooden box). Most of the other LTD stuff in my collection tends to be vinyl (i do, however, have the especially nice Cocteau Twins Singles' Box) so should i bother with the Creedence Box if the only thing "limited" about it is the box it comes in? Somebody knock some sense into me.

If I had the money I would have gotten the SPZ limited edition pharmacutical packaging so go for it.

how is the cocteau twin's singles box limited? i see it everywhere for years and years, and it's not particularly fancy, just nice. no gold embossed numbers or stupid booklets either. just the singles.

Well, it's out of print now. I managed to find a new copy but I paid through the nose for it. Secondhand copies are reasonably easy to find, but they're not cheap.

I suppose that depends on the definition of 'in print'. It's no longer available from their record company or distributor, but that's not to say there isn't heaps of copies still in stores..

Of course it was never 'in print' in Australia at all so our paltry number of very expensive imports disappeared very quickly indeed.

yeah, my definition of "in print" was actually "see it in all the local shops and it's available from amazon.com." but since it was released in 1991 and is still available retail new... ixnay on it being "limited edition."

i also assume the sticker on the shrinkwrap on my copy that said "limited edition" was some kind of early 90's attempt at irony.

You can can always count on this board to always take the tangent. Can you agree that the Cocteau Box is a Special Edition then? It offers nothing new other than it's packaging.

Getting back to CCR, it looks a nice set and the discs are remastered, so you can just about justify it even if you've got all the vinyl.

I've just had a look at it on amazon.com and someone on there says it's actually cardboard designed to look like wood, so don't buy it on the strength of the packaging alone.

If you haven't got all the individual CCR albums then I'd say definitely go for it, cos until the last 2 they're utter magic.

I've got all the CCR vinyl, but some of my platters are kinda crummy. The Box set is available in the standard cardboard box -- but the Limited version is in an actual woody (priced $91.09 vs $99.99 at CDUNIVERSE).

Sure, 10 bucks ain't nothing. But what about stuff like, i dunno, the 10" Kid A album set for $30?
