I was told today that Joe Pernice died. Genius behind 'Massachusets', 'The World Won't End', the Pernice Bros., Big Tobacco. This is a bad loss. Rest in peace, Joe.

Oh my god. What happened?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 21:20 (twenty-three years ago)

My friend said, he read this from Teletext, that he died in a car crash. I can't find any validation of this on the interweb, tho' I'm searching.

david h (david h), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 21:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Fuck. RIP Mr Chappaquidick Skyline...

Mr Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 21:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Thing is, though, where exactly would you find it out?

Mr Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 21:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I dunno; I'm checking the alt.countrytab message board as I type.

david h (david h), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 21:27 (twenty-three years ago)

I tried calling his publicist. No answer.

Yancey (ystrickler), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 21:34 (twenty-three years ago)

My friend just confessed he 'made it up'. Sorry.

Sick bastard.

david h (david h), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 21:34 (twenty-three years ago)

That's ridiculous. Fuck him.

Yancey (ystrickler), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 21:35 (twenty-three years ago)

It just seemed so out-of-the-blue-extraordinary that he couldn't have fabricated it. What a tool. Me. And him.

david h (david h), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 21:35 (twenty-three years ago)

In order for this to be a true net rumor, it would have to be in a car crash while a plane fell on him as he was dying of AIDS.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 21:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh.

Mr Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 21:37 (twenty-three years ago)

All the while being riddled full of bullet holes by Lars Ulrich for downloading audio clips of James Hetfield's AA meetings.

Yancey (ystrickler), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 21:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 21:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, that would've sucked tremendously if Joe'd bought it. Kinda weird sense of humor on your friend there.

wl (wl), Tuesday, 29 October 2002 21:51 (twenty-three years ago)

My friend just confessed he 'made it up'. Sorry.

If he lives here in the Happy Valley of Western MA. The PC music pacifists are beating his ass rght now

brg30 (brg30), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 00:45 (twenty-three years ago)

It would suck even worse if the story you heard was made up, but then it turned out he really HAD died (cue TWILIGHT ZONE deedle-deedles). Whoa, kinda weird sense of humor on me.

matt riedl (veal), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 00:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Looking forward to his his book about The Smiths... stop virtually killing him...

Tim D, Wednesday, 30 October 2002 02:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Years ago, I worked in a record store in a college town, and whenever a rumor about some musician dying swept along the grapevine, we would get calls asking if it was true. So one day we decided to start our own rumor and see how long it would take someone to call us about it. We started casually mentioning to customers that U2's Adam Clayton had died (we figured he was famous enough so that people might care, but still obscure enough that people wouldn't expect to see it on the news). It took less than two hours for us to get our first call, and I felt instantly guilty.

electricsound, Wednesday, 27 February 2008 23:20 (eighteen years ago)

I know, Ned. I feared that it was revived because now it's true, even if it wasn't when the thread began. Thankfully, not the case.

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 27 February 2008 23:22 (eighteen years ago)
