i think its wonderful after the first listen, namely the second track. sounds like XTC? hell yea. another 80's revival band? possibly. but the vibe being put out by these guys are leaning more towards genuine fun than shitty electroclash sass posturing. tell me you've heard it.

I've heard them and love them. But, from what I understand, Canadians love to hate them. I don't fully understand the XTC comparison (?!), but "No, Not Now" is one of my favorite tracks on the album.

One thing I did notice, though, is that "Get In or Get Out" is an homage to Yes. From the filtered drum fill that begins the song (a la "Owner of a Lonely Heart") to the organ solos, it's obvious they're drawing influence from strange places.

I downloaded the "No Not Now" from Paul's site and am still fixated on it. The record in its entirety also aptly sustains my interest. I find it exciting and not in the least about posturing or wearing the uniform/attire. I will wince the first time I hear someone label them part of the garage wave and make other such lazy comparisons.

i haven't heard it but i hope it's better than the knock knock knock ep - i much preferred the spazzy screamo "shitty electroclash sass posturing" of their earlier releases. yes, i'm one of *those* people. on the otherhand, i'm also canadian and would rather have more bands like hot hot heat coming out of bc than another band like default. or whatever.

"i'd rather hear them on the radio than..."

Love 'em. Remind me of Dismemberment Plan.

no sir, i dont like it. (sounds a bit too forced 80's for me)

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 16:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I like what I've heard, but it's one of the records where you wonder, "How often will I pull this from the shelves a year from now?"

TMFTML (TMFTML), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 16:38 (twenty-three years ago)

it is nothing compared to their ache stuff. i got the ep out of a used bin only weeks after it came out -not even a promo copy- and i dug 5 times out of a hundred and le le low but couldn't stand the rest: like laughably bad. the stuff i've heard from the new one is the same. i guess they'll just have to get a new batch of fans cause people who are into the ache era stuff hate this crap

ps.
matty m 4 eva!

Ahmen brother.
More for the forced bit.

two years pass...
Any sentiments on the more recent Hot Hot Heat?
I quite like Elevator, and though Make Up... was better, I don't feel that much difference between the two albums.

zeus, Wednesday, 20 April 2005 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I have been enjoying Elevator quite a lot, with the understanding that it's just a fun clap-along along record rather than an undying epistle for the ages, etc.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 23:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Me too. It's just as good as Make Up...and I just really like their sound.

First few tracks I thought were disappointing, gets better in the middle, then they turn into The Clash for one song!

I have only listened to it once.
