Chance for 'tramp and 'chunk partisans to set aside their blood feud and be true to their prefix. So which is better (worse? blander?) - bands with names beginning with "Super" or bands with names beginning with "Sugar"? Names that could be comic book heroes or names that could be breakfast cereals?

You've met team Super already (although conspicuously not fantastic Swedish jazz trio Supersilent.) But are they any match for...

I like the out-XTCing-XTC Sugarplastic and the Japanese slowcorin', dreampoppin' Sugar Plant, but I'm Superindie.

Curt (cgould), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 15:38 (twenty-three years ago)

SUpergrass, SuperDenseChild (he good!), Superchunk
vs
Suga(r)babes, Sugar Ray, Sugar

blueski, Wednesday, 30 October 2002 15:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Supergrass and Super Furry Animals triumph over Sugar and the Sugarhill Gang.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 16:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Super Discount and Supermen Lovers too

blueski, Wednesday, 30 October 2002 16:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Sugar prefix includes Sugarcoma. Super includes Supernaturals. Issa muthafucka...

Mr Swygart (mrswygart), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 16:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Is there a band called "Supersugar" or "Sugarsuper?" and if not, why the hell not?

gage-o, Wednesday, 30 October 2002 16:55 (twenty-three years ago)

"Is there a band called "Supersugar" or "Sugarsuper?" and if not, why the hell not?"

Because they'd be immediately torn apart by doubts, fears and internal conflicts as a direct result of the appearance of this thread.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 16:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Sugababes are the only thing Team Sugar has going for them and even then they're prone to being excluded on a technicality. Sugar on the other hand makes this team a dead-loss no matter who's on the other side.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 17:12 (twenty-three years ago)

But who's this? Sugarhill Gang has just walked in the room to whoop some ass.

Aaron W, Wednesday, 30 October 2002 17:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Physics state that no team with SugarComa on them can win.

Does Zucchero count?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 17:17 (twenty-three years ago)

yet another French dance act btw - Superfunk

if only it was songs - 'Sugarman', 'Sugar Walls', 'Sugar Honey Ice Tea (great acronym)', 'Sugar Sugar' vs 'Super Bon Bon', 'Superunknown' and 'Supercalifragilisticexpealidotious' - much more of an even contest

blueski, Wednesday, 30 October 2002 17:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Sugar Ros!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 17:41 (twenty-three years ago)

blueski, Wednesday, 30 October 2002 17:45 (twenty-three years ago)

tony bleach (blackshoeswhitesocks), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 17:45 (twenty-three years ago)

sugar (the band) and only sugar (the band) owns this thread.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 17:46 (twenty-three years ago)

actually its Super_Collider - they'll be very upset if you dont use the underscore...always wondered if their album was worthy (liked the singles)

blueski, Wednesday, 30 October 2002 17:49 (twenty-three years ago)

and superconductor!

tony bleach (blackshoeswhitesocks), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 17:54 (twenty-three years ago)

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 19:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I like the out-XTCing-XTC Sugarplastic

Another vote here for the Sugarplastic, who made my favorite record of 2000 (although if I told you what my second favorite was, you'd surely discredit me).

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 20:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey Noodles, what'll it take for you to pick up an extra Sugar Ros t-shirt for me tonight? I can't make it.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 20:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Inna dancehall throwdown: Supercat vs. Sugar Minott.

briania, Wednesday, 30 October 2002 20:51 (twenty-three years ago)

''(although if I told you what my second favorite was, you'd surely discredit me)''

oh you'll tell us...we'll get it out of you someday hehehe...

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 21:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Jody Beth, would that be the Sugarplastic's demos & B-Sides album? I've never heard that one, only seen it on web discographies.

Curt (cgould), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 22:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Are you serious Sean? As much as I loved the "Buy Hope, Avoid Apoclypse" shirt I would be hestitant to shell out 30 bucks for any tshirt.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 22:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Kinda, man. I know it's probably too late now, though. Oh well. If you get one, I'll buy it from you, unless it's butt fuckin' ugly.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 31 October 2002 00:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Jody Beth, would that be the Sugarplastic's demos & B-Sides album?

No, it was Resin.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 31 October 2002 00:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Sean you will OWE me!
unless its buttfuck ugly.
Luckily Massey Hall is all of 5 minutes from my office.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 31 October 2002 01:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Superlongevity (Perlon Records comp) vs. Sugar Minott (reggae artist)? Hmmm....

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 31 October 2002 03:32 (twenty-three years ago)

supertramp wins it for the "super"s...

ko hsüan, Thursday, 31 October 2002 03:44 (twenty-three years ago)

No t shirts for sale. And for fuck sakes Von at $35. New album sold out.

Show much better then the one last summer. I gotta jet.

Their tour manager is an utter BEOTCH!

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 31 October 2002 04:23 (twenty-three years ago)

At least they had Von this time...when I saw them at Palais they didn't have NUTTIN except some t-shirts that you could barely make out as band shirts. Dammit. Oh well.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 31 October 2002 04:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Glad to see you got those tickets after all Mr N!

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 31 October 2002 11:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Sugar Bear "don't scandalize mine"

tacit (tacit), Thursday, 31 October 2002 12:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Yup, got a single right on the floor. Wonderful seat. They're playing much more confidently. And Massey Hall was much better the Palais Royale for acoustics. The string quartet sounded alot better this time round especially. Though it was wierd, it was like a date at the symphony, a big, "honey, I bought Sugar Ros tickets, lets get dressed up like specky gits and go". Next time their in town Im wearing a suit with one of those white scarfs tossed around my neck.

And do they really need two tour buses?
