this maybe is an unfavorable comparison, but the track reminds of "You've Changed" by Sia (with Nick Valensi on guitars)
― Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Thursday, 20 April 2017 20:30 (seven years ago) link
For no reason whatsoever this song and video both remind me of

So yeah this is their new sound and they're sticking to it. Another good track though.

I wonder if this is the track that's gonna get the bigger push on alt radio, while "Hard Times" goes for the top 40 spins
― Evan R, Wednesday, 3 May 2017 16:37 (seven years ago) link
that song rules

paramore's de·pres·sion
― ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Wednesday, 3 May 2017 17:16 (seven years ago) link
So psyched for the album now.
― how's life, Wednesday, 3 May 2017 17:40 (seven years ago) link
these songs are produced really well. all the instruments are crisp.
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 3 May 2017 17:59 (seven years ago) link
they seem to be having fun. this is good
― Spottie, Wednesday, 3 May 2017 18:23 (seven years ago) link
Hard Times went from 'ok' to 'great' after a day and I love this immediately
― ufo, Wednesday, 3 May 2017 22:07 (seven years ago) link
after staring lovingly at Taylor's mugging iirc
― the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 3 May 2017 22:15 (seven years ago) link
New one is good too. I haven't been a fan in the past but I definitely saw some of the appeal of the last album.

I'm really enjoying the new song, but this part is nagging me a little.

Uh, that isn't showing up for me. So what I was trying to point out was the similarity between the moments at about 2:40 in Told You So and 3:03 in Hard Times.
― how's life, Thursday, 4 May 2017 13:41 (seven years ago) link
tbh i like that the songs seem to talk to each other
― ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 4 May 2017 13:42 (seven years ago) link
That's a good way to look at it.
― how's life, Thursday, 4 May 2017 13:43 (seven years ago) link
*relistens to "told you so"* ugh this is magnificent
― ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 4 May 2017 13:43 (seven years ago) link
lol

Love "Told You So". This looks suddenly (and, to me anyway, unexpectedly) an album of the year contender.
― Jeff W, Friday, 5 May 2017 09:41 (seven years ago) link
i can't listen to anything else. what a brilliant song.
― Nourry, Friday, 5 May 2017 09:56 (seven years ago) link
I love it when there's something my daughter and I can both enjoy. It's much preferable to nefarious tween marketing tweaks directing her to bullseye shit like Panic! At the Disco and Twenty One Pilots.

This album is fantastic. It's just the kind of album I needed in my life right now.

just when I thought this was their twist-free pop record, the penultimate track shows up
― a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 11 May 2017 12:30 (seven years ago) link
"Forgiveness" is either a blatant Haim lift or a working through of the same influences.

hayley has lately been enthusing about haim all over twitter fyi

I was going to say, who needs a new Haim?
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 11 May 2017 13:45 (seven years ago) link
Two quick observations: drummer has some fallback hi-hat on the 2 and 4 beats, and guitarist really likes those little African-esque licks. Both of which work, to my ears.
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 11 May 2017 13:47 (seven years ago) link
yeah, lots of high life accents
― the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 11 May 2017 13:48 (seven years ago) link
"forgiveness" is easily the best song i've heard this year & will prob destroy anything on the haim album--and i love haim!
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 11 May 2017 13:52 (seven years ago) link
It's got sort of 1975 vibes about it, too. And, um, "Cherish." Lovely, though.
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 11 May 2017 14:02 (seven years ago) link
Fake Happy is my immediate favourite. I love how those synths come in after that misleading intro.
No Friend is the only one I'm not really into. I don't think they really pulled off what they were going for. It's the only misfire on the album though, everything else sounds so good.
― kitchen person, Thursday, 11 May 2017 14:09 (seven years ago) link
think of "no friend" as a dark inverse coda to "idle worship" bc... well, it is, but i think those are the terms on which it works
― ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Thursday, 11 May 2017 14:17 (seven years ago) link
Pool is my favourite at the moment, but the first seven tracks are all pretty fantastic
No Friend would probably be fine if it were like a minute, doesn't really need to be longer than the track it's an outro to
― ufo, Thursday, 11 May 2017 15:20 (seven years ago) link
is that Taylor singing "No Friend"?
