I know it's not most people's favorite but I still sort of admire the moxie of deciding that your first single should be a TLC cover.

Interstate Love Song

I love it when people drone on tediously about this, unaware that the argument was settled by 1995. Coming next: "Nirvana sold out when they signed to Geffen OMG!"

you just can't get cheap heat with "what's the best pilot song?"

big rave warrior (rushomancy), Thursday, 21 July 2016 20:14 (seven years ago) link

There There, followed by Pyramid Song, Everything In Its Right Place, Paranoid Android and Just.

sorry for the lack of joeks etc but I will take any and all opportunities to talk about how fucking fantastic "There There" is

http://porno (DJP), Thursday, 21 July 2016 20:36 (seven years ago) link

Song's great. Always found it amusing that one of the best Radiohead songs is on one of the only albums that could easily pass for one of their worst, if one of them has to be their worst.

Their worst album is still easily Pablo Honey, followed by In Rainbows

In RainbowsThe King of Limbs

the hair - it's lost its energy (Turrican), Thursday, 21 July 2016 21:24 (seven years ago) link

The King of Limbs is kind of boring and monochromatic but the songs do reinforce and support each other. I like the individual songs on In Rainbows but they way they interact with each other in sequence doesn't work for me in the slightest.

I like two Radiohead albums, Kid A and the new one.

Like you care...

totally.

i'm pleasantly surprised to see the love "there there" is getting too. "other" seems to be the early leader in this poll.

Oh, I don't even include the first album. And often In Rainbows is my favorite (when I'm listening to Radiohead). Only one I never listen to, of the post-Pablo years, is King of Limbs, but something about Hail to the Thief is just off, despite so many good songs. It's probably just the pacing/sequencing/wrong choice of album cuts v. b-sides.

just remembered how, as an always-grounded teen in 1997, i would play "exit music" over and over in my room and pointedly increase the volume at the part where he says WE HOPE YOUR RULES AND WISDOM CHOKE YOU.

amazing my mother isn't in prison for murdering me.

i've been listening to radiohead for decades and i could never make out what on earth he was moaning in that song

I'm not sure I know any lyrics by the band, and it is probably for the better. I like being able to pick out a few words here and there. Kind of impressionistic.

Treeship, Friday, 22 July 2016 05:35 (seven years ago) link

Everyone upthread OTM about "There There" being fucking fantastic and probably their best song. Struggling to articulate why. Something about the woods and alternate tunings and how it's straightforward instrumentally but the melody and the arrangement is otherworldly...

flappy bird, Friday, 22 July 2016 05:43 (seven years ago) link

I've not heard it that much, and when I try to recall it, it seems to resemble Prince's "Thieves in the temple"

I know it does not, its just me..

It sort of does resemble "Thieves in the Temple". Obv this is making me love it more.

http://porno (DJP), Friday, 22 July 2016 13:09 (seven years ago) link

I'm a big Radiohead fan and the Hail to the Thief era is fine-to-middling, but 'There There' is their best song.

I dunno about "king of limbs" as a whole, but I think "lotus flower" is among their best, maybe just behind "there, there"

it's sort of a layered stunt (sheesh), Saturday, 23 July 2016 07:25 (seven years ago) link

also I heard "lotus flower" in a wal-mart of all places, some weeks ago, make of that what you will
