The first two songs rank among the best one-two punches I've heard in modern music.

The live videos where they do a busking performance of select tracks from this album are priceless.

Let Me Know is the standout

ufo, Saturday, 11 November 2017 11:48 (one year ago) Permalink

Movie Star or Let Me Know but what a great album and I wish she was interested in doing stuff like this still

boxedjoy, Saturday, 11 November 2017 19:53 (one year ago) Permalink

"movie star" would be my #2, probably. goosebump inducing

brimstead, Saturday, 11 November 2017 20:20 (one year ago) Permalink

it is absolutely fabulous and i am sick and tired of people sleeping on it!!

i've always avoided this band bc their name makes them sound like a company that makes pencil erasers but i'll check it out!

sleepingbag, Saturday, 11 November 2017 20:52 (one year ago) Permalink

oh lol it's a person. well point stands

sleepingbag, Saturday, 11 November 2017 20:56 (one year ago) Permalink

i liked the last murphy record but never think to check her other stuff out. maybe it's time

imago, Saturday, 11 November 2017 22:08 (one year ago) Permalink

This album is her career peak, imo, including her Moloko years.

You'll be director
And I'll be a movie star

dorsalstop, Thursday, 16 November 2017 20:28 (one year ago) Permalink

For years I would have gone with the title track, but recently I've been drawn to Tell Everybody. The chorus is one of her best vocal performances and I really love those stabs of strings in the second verse. It's very early Eurythmics. Primitive is also a contender. I could pick almost anything here as this album truly is perfect.

Statues is my second favourite Murphy related record. It was ridiculously ignored when it came out.

kitchen person, Friday, 17 November 2017 05:15 (one year ago) Permalink

kitchen, i'm a big fan of that closing vocal on "Tell Everybody" - "I almost remember your face, but it's fading, it's fading fast" and how the vocals are chopped-up on the outro

Week of Wonders (Ross), Friday, 17 November 2017 05:19 (one year ago) Permalink

Statues is my favourite, followed by Hairless Toys

ufo, Friday, 17 November 2017 05:58 (one year ago) Permalink

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 11 February 2018 03:32 (one year ago) Permalink

i totally forgot which one I voted for lmao. i think it was "Let Me Know"? but "You Know Me Better" def would've been my second choice.
