happy new year, happy new jeff rosenstock record

also looks like senses fail went back to their pop-punk roots, album out next month

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Tuesday, 2 January 2018 17:45 (two months ago) Permalink

sad new emo year!!

Pianos Become the Teeth and Tiny Moving Parts have new ones out soonish

Simon H., Tuesday, 2 January 2018 18:05 (two months ago) Permalink

lmao at the ersatz Eno/SotL ending to the new Rosenstock record, bless his heart

Simon H., Tuesday, 2 January 2018 18:34 (two months ago) Permalink

POST- is fine but not really close to being as great as WORRY., it doesn't have the same sheer density of hooks

ufo, Wednesday, 3 January 2018 07:42 (two months ago) Permalink

yeah the only two songs that really grab me in the worry way are the two epics. i also love "yr throat"

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Wednesday, 3 January 2018 08:44 (two months ago) Permalink

I really like the two quasi-ballads, "TV Stars" (despite its weirdly arbitrary chorus) and "9/10", which actually got me a little teary on first listen. Definitely a transitional record, which is easy to get away with when you release an album every 12-15 months.

Simon H., Wednesday, 3 January 2018 14:48 (two months ago) Permalink

"it's not like any other job I know / if you're a piece of shit they don't let you go" is a good of-the-moment lyric

Simon H., Wednesday, 3 January 2018 14:52 (two months ago) Permalink

Sounds great so far. It doesn't build and flow as seamlessly as WORRY, but I like all the songs individually.

jmm, Wednesday, 3 January 2018 15:50 (two months ago) Permalink

two weeks pass...

OK, the Tiny Moving Parts song released today ("Warm Hand Splash") is *fantastic*

Simon H., Friday, 19 January 2018 13:44 (two months ago) Permalink

ooh i like them!

maura, Friday, 19 January 2018 21:08 (two months ago) Permalink

wow it's really great

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 19 January 2018 21:47 (two months ago) Permalink

new dashboard song out too

as usual the lyrics are not extraordinary and yet i feel moved listening to it

Mordy, Saturday, 20 January 2018 15:28 (two months ago) Permalink

on more of a screamo tip, this is real good

Simon H., Saturday, 20 January 2018 16:50 (two months ago) Permalink

It was Stereogum's album of the week a few days ago:

That Tiny Moving Parts song wasn't bad, closer to what I'm looking for

Nhex, Thursday, 25 January 2018 01:37 (one month ago) Permalink

Thank you for showing me Closer. Loving this so much

gman59, Thursday, 25 January 2018 01:38 (one month ago) Permalink

I'm liking Closer too; can't escape the irony that the chorus of the track they've set to play first is "All I want is something familiar" bc yeah this sounds familiar! In a good way!

I want to change my display name (dan m), Thursday, 25 January 2018 13:22 (one month ago) Permalink

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 25 January 2018 15:24 (one month ago) Permalink

I'm hopeful they'll get back together at some point (unless you're about to tell me I shouldn't be)

Simon H., Thursday, 25 January 2018 15:26 (one month ago) Permalink

oh i am too. oh common life deserves a follow-up

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 25 January 2018 15:27 (one month ago) Permalink

i had no idea that the dangerous summer reunited and recorded a new album? so far it's great, but their albums tend to start off great and drift into whatever

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 26 January 2018 17:08 (one month ago) Permalink

actually the album is pretty good the whole way through!

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 26 January 2018 17:38 (one month ago) Permalink

my favorite screamo song of the year is the last minute or so this all-screaming version of the Lady Bird trailer

I now present to you, the Lady Bird trailer, but I scream every word...

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 2 February 2018 21:30 (one month ago) Permalink

new black foxxes record is already one of my favorite albums of the year and this is one of the best songs from it. riyl: manchester orchestra

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Monday, 5 February 2018 22:06 (one month ago) Permalink

I do wish the TMP album were a touch more ambitious overall a la "Warm Hand Splash" but it is certainly v solid

Simon H., Monday, 5 February 2018 22:08 (one month ago) Permalink

based on my many listens to "Charisma" I have decided that PBtT's David Haik is the most overperforming drummer in emo (in a good way)

Simon H., Monday, 5 February 2018 22:41 (one month ago) Permalink

great track when is the album actually dropping

Mordy, Monday, 5 February 2018 22:43 (one month ago) Permalink

next friday

Simon H., Monday, 5 February 2018 22:44 (one month ago) Permalink

Enjoyed the last Runaway Brother album then kinda forgot about it quickly, but I'm looking forward to the new one. Some promising early tracks

Evan R, Wednesday, 7 February 2018 19:41 (one month ago) Permalink

Super into this new DON BROCO album!

Simon H., Thursday, 8 February 2018 14:47 (one month ago) Permalink

new Brian Fallon is out today, he's (unsurprisingly) gone even more retro and not really connected to anything even emo-adjacent at this point but it's not bad!

new Dashboard is out too for those so inclined. There's also an OK new Wonder Years single - album's out in April.

Simon H., Friday, 9 February 2018 13:18 (one month ago) Permalink

for those so inclined

don't mind if i do!

Mordy, Friday, 9 February 2018 15:06 (one month ago) Permalink

a little bit of awakebutstillinbed goes a long way but I've really been enjoying the album

I just listened to their whole album and really enjoyed it.

Everything in this thread is absolutely beautiful. Have been loving the Tiny Moving Parts, Closer, Jeff Rosenstock, Runaway Brother (who I'd never heard of before, so thank you Evan R), Senses Fail...all of it!

This is a really richly produced sort of emogaze by 'Snape', who don't seem to have released much else before this. The whole thing sounds great, but try track 5 for something instantly loveable.

Launch of new ILM school business management programmes! (tangenttangent), Sunday, 11 February 2018 22:43 (one month ago) Permalink

Emo is sometimes a hard sell for me but pretty much every Snape track has me saying things like 'whoa, this is great!' or 'this sounds like Adam & Eve-era Catherine Wheel!' so yeah

imago, Sunday, 11 February 2018 22:45 (one month ago) Permalink

Holy shit, the closing track!!!

imago, Sunday, 11 February 2018 23:01 (one month ago) Permalink

the Dashboard Album is not good.

fgti spinner (Spottie), Monday, 12 February 2018 17:10 (one month ago) Permalink

lol i like it. particularly "About Us" and the single ("Heart Beat Here"). a couple other tracks already growing on me.

Mordy, Monday, 12 February 2018 17:31 (one month ago) Permalink

has a few tracks I liked yeah but overall idk.

fgti spinner (Spottie), Monday, 12 February 2018 17:47 (one month ago) Permalink

just noticed that the PBtT album is available as a $1-or-more digital download from Bandcamp, with a special offer:

From now until February 19th, all Bandcamp sales from Pianos Become The Teeth's 'Wait For Love' digital downloads will benefit The Choice Program at UMBC. Name your price and Epitaph will match half your amount.

Simon H., Tuesday, 13 February 2018 14:00 (one month ago) Permalink

more punk than pop-punk I suppose but the new Turnstile album slaps

Simon H., Wednesday, 21 February 2018 14:32 (one month ago) Permalink

the (likely excellent) new Camp Cope album is also up at NPR.

Simon H., Thursday, 22 February 2018 14:21 (one month ago) Permalink

came here to post about the Camp Cope, I'm really liking this

Dinsdale, Thursday, 22 February 2018 20:22 (one month ago) Permalink

it kinda peters out near the end, but the first half is very strong

Simon H., Thursday, 22 February 2018 20:23 (one month ago) Permalink

Both those Turnstile and Camp Cope albums are exceptional; great week for new music

Evan R, Thursday, 22 February 2018 20:25 (one month ago) Permalink

Listening to awakebutstillinbed on repeat tonight.

No purposes. Sounds. (Sund4r), Friday, 23 February 2018 01:42 (one month ago) Permalink

There's an appropriately somber Manchester Orchestra/Julien Baker collab single out today, I assume it's a one-off.

Simon H., Friday, 23 February 2018 16:31 (one month ago) Permalink

and I just figured out it's a Pedro the Lion cover

Simon H., Friday, 23 February 2018 16:32 (one month ago) Permalink

this Camp Cope album is pretty much the only thing I feel like playing these days

Dinsdale, Tuesday, 27 February 2018 20:41 (three weeks ago) Permalink

at work and tearing up listening to I've Got You, damn

Dinsdale, Thursday, 1 March 2018 09:40 (three weeks ago) Permalink

Camp Cope man, what a stunner of an album. I'm gonna need to listen 50 more times to absorb everything

i like this

flopson, Tuesday, 6 March 2018 08:57 (two weeks ago) Permalink

I've wishlisted that. I like the interplay between math-y clean-tone guitars and melodic emo vocals.

Black Foxxes is out today - I've loved all the advance tracks so I'm exxpecting great things

Simon H., Friday, 16 March 2018 12:05 (one week ago) Permalink

the black foxxes record is so good. "the big wild" is such a rich and varied song

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 16 March 2018 15:34 (one week ago) Permalink

The second single off the new Wonder Years is much nicer than the first!

tangenttangent, Friday, 16 March 2018 19:44 (one week ago) Permalink

yeah it's pretty good! I wish the mix breathed more though (this was my complaint about the last couple as well, sigh)

Simon H., Friday, 16 March 2018 19:55 (one week ago) Permalink

I know what you mean - I think that's definitely something that holds them back... Still, excited for the album a bit more now

tangenttangent, Friday, 16 March 2018 23:35 (one week ago) Permalink

Not sure this is quiiite the right place for this, but I think people here can hopefully appreciate it and idk where else to put it and it's AMAZING

tangenttangent, Friday, 16 March 2018 23:36 (one week ago) Permalink

love the extremely cure-ish guitar/synth counterpoint on this song

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Saturday, 17 March 2018 20:55 (one week ago) Permalink

TT that Ling Tosite Sigure record slaps and absolutely belongs here

Simon H., Saturday, 17 March 2018 23:11 (one week ago) Permalink

one of my favorite recent punk bands just broke up but they put out one last record and it's the best thing they've ever done

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Sunday, 18 March 2018 03:50 (six days ago) Permalink

whoa this album is unreal, thx brad!

Simon H., Sunday, 18 March 2018 14:10 (six days ago) Permalink

i am extremely excited for the new underoath record even though the new songs are apparently really pissing off their fans lol. "on my teeth" reminds me of shining more than any previous underoath song, "rapture" sounds like something i'd hear in between three days grace and papa roach on the radio but it's still... real good imo

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Tuesday, 20 March 2018 15:18 (four days ago) Permalink

Still relistening to the Donovan Wolfington. it's really great, even the production/mixing is exceptional. honestly my only complaint is it's way too short, bittersweet note to go out on

Simon H., Tuesday, 20 March 2018 15:37 (four days ago) Permalink

That Gulfer LP has been a go-to for me the last couple of weeks. Thanks for the rec flopson
