The Chieftains - classic or dud

Really never had a Chieftains thread? Maybe I searched poorly.

My folks are major Chieftains fans and are visiting from out of town, so we've been streaming them all day. Today along with some De Danann and Bothy Band we've gone through the album they made with Van Morrison (Irish Heartbeat), Boil the Breakfast Early, and Chieftains 3. Some great playing obviously and while I've skewed more towards other within the Celtic folk world in recent years I feel like I should dig back into them.

Ian, you like these guys??

eleven months pass...

Got the first and third LPs on vinyl yesterday, both very good shape, for $1 each. (Already had #2 and #4.) Just playing them now.

My first poor CD purchase was one of their '90s albums. Heard "St. Stephen's Day Murders" w/ Elvis Costello on PBS at Christmastime and thought maybe I was into Irish music. Turns out I was not.
