You have an artist like this? You're really familiar with them (and not just as an incidental opening act, or via your roommate playing their records, etc.) -- but you're "not a fan" / trending toward "active dislike"?

I'm still catching up on the shit I like. How can you guys get this far ahead?

Just speaking from my own experience – certain bands have a strong gravitational pull (especially if you’re into a certain sound/scene); or maybe inertia keeps you going for a while, even after your tastes have solidified in another direction. (I’m thinking of Sonic Youth in my case... they were almost obligatory on a certain level. Obviously they’re not around anymore.)

I guess. I also don't have the same extensive backlog of live show attendances that a lot of you folks here have.

Anyway, I was going to say that perhaps not really having a "scene" like that growing up and into my early adult years definitely had an impact in that regard. Practically nobody that I cared about came to Reno, so it was tons of planning and a drive over to the Bay Area if I wanted to see somebody; so you know it had to be somebody I was really into. And then the drive back (usually on the same night, because fucking hotel rooms are expensive). Ahh, youth.

Off to bed with me and my now greying hair.

I feel you (not ashamed to admit I pluck the greys from my beard, lol)
