HSBC Executive who wakes up at 5:30 to work out, always eats green and studies at Stanford in her spare time, what's on your iPod?

The Stairway To Heaven of annoying Day in the Life articles. What does she listen to in between her 7:30 am tennis game, catching up with friends on facetime, enjoying waterside views during lunch, getting her certificate in innovation and entrepreneurship, evening yoga, promoting women's empowerment in Papua New Guinea, or taking an evening walk with her boyfriend while reflecting on her key wins?

While she's commuting, she listens to a podcast — her favorites include "The Pitch," "Dorm Room Tycoon," and "The Goop Podcast"

niels, Friday, 19 October 2018 14:45 (five years ago) link

I don’t think these type of people listen to music. Was going to suggest perhaps there’s only business podcasts in there and guess what? They actually are.

They may sometimes tap their feet to coldplay.

I don’t know if I should feel like a slacker next to her but her life sounds miserable to me.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 19 October 2018 15:13 (five years ago) link

Because she's all about "female empowerment" despite directly and actively contributing to a system that oppresses the same people she is ostensibly trying to help, there'd definitely be some Beyoncè on there.

triggercut, Friday, 19 October 2018 15:32 (five years ago) link

I feel like it's probably just this song on loop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ht80uzIhNs

I have never heard Imagine Dragons until now

FP'd you

My Gig: The Thin Beast (sic), Friday, 19 October 2018 15:47 (five years ago) link

Wait, you've never heard that ubiquitous, abysmal fucking song?

Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Friday, 19 October 2018 15:56 (five years ago) link

I haven't knowingly heard it and at this point I'm afraid to click on the video to check if I have.

pomenitul, Friday, 19 October 2018 15:57 (five years ago) link

This person can not be real.

Yerac, Friday, 19 October 2018 16:01 (five years ago) link

I feel like it's in tons of movie trailers, commercials, probably wedding videos

Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Friday, 19 October 2018 16:04 (five years ago) link

I bit the bullet and am happy to report that I'd never heard it before. But then again, I don't watch TV and see no more than 4-5 films per year so that might explain it (I used to love film until I developed a weird phobia of it that I'm still struggling to shake off).

pomenitul, Friday, 19 October 2018 16:08 (five years ago) link

I go into multiplex theaters fifteen minutes after the start time at Regal, twenty minutes at AMC, and only twice at all in the last three months since Moviepass turned to crap. TV reception at mine is very bad, but I watch Jeopardy once or twice a month if I'm eating at home at 7:30 and it's working, and have hate-half-watched SNL twice this season. So maybe I've heard it in the background when I go to the kitchen during commercials.

the great thing about the woman in the article is that she seems to have a very busy job that doesn't entail actually doing anything

My Gig: The Thin Beast (sic), Friday, 19 October 2018 16:13 (five years ago) link

^^ wondered about that too

The nexus of the crisis (Sund4r), Friday, 19 October 2018 16:31 (five years ago) link

Idk if I've listened to "I Bet My Life" before either tbh, although it could have blended in with a bunch of other things from that time. I know "Radioactive", "Believer", and "Thunder" like the back of my hand, though. I actually didn't know they ever drew on twee/folk elements.

Kinda ?? to be ripping on this person from a dumb clickbait feature?

She's on LinkedIn, you could just message her and ask what she listens to (maybe she'll respond): https://www.linkedin.com/in/melaniaedwards/

a neon light ablaze in this green smoky haze (morrisp), Friday, 19 October 2018 17:53 (five years ago) link

Messaging her after a clickbait feature honestly seems more ?? than jokingly speculating about it on a message board.

The nexus of the crisis (Sund4r), Friday, 19 October 2018 18:05 (five years ago) link

Yeah I guess I was more trying to subtly make the point that she's a real person

a neon light ablaze in this green smoky haze (morrisp), Friday, 19 October 2018 18:07 (five years ago) link

is this your first "what's on your ipod?" thread morris?

My Gig: The Thin Beast (sic), Friday, 19 October 2018 18:10 (five years ago) link

I'm usually big on privacy but I guess this thread doesn't seem that harsh to me. Afaict, she's a wealthy and powerful person who agreed to have a clickbait article written about her comfortable and privileged lifestyle. She had to know that people would discuss it and it could get a lot worse than "lol I bet she likes Imagine Dragons".

The nexus of the crisis (Sund4r), Friday, 19 October 2018 18:40 (five years ago) link

in all honesty she seems like she probably listens to endless recordings of living things being mutilated. just lots of bones being crunched, flesh being shredded, agonizing screams, etc.

del griffith, Friday, 19 October 2018 18:44 (five years ago) link

Indeed, it could get a lot snarkier and it has (see Twitter).

xp aka the Goop Podcast

jmm, Friday, 19 October 2018 18:47 (five years ago) link

I'll leave you guys to it, then. Seems like she's essentially a business development exec, and I assume the feature in fluffcore Business Insider was placed as exposure for HSBC; guess it served its purpose.

I think that's strictly her meditation soundtrack

That dealbreaker article with those Bosch paintings is hilarious.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 25 October 2018 18:24 (five years ago) link

The paintings really clinch it. Speaking of which, this is as appropriate a moment as any to point out that David Ryckaert III's take on Dulle Griet (Mad Meg from Flemish folklore) makes for an underrated alternative.

pomenitul, Friday, 26 October 2018 14:09 (five years ago) link

Of course, this can only mean that Giovanni Verrando's Dulle Griet is also on his iPod.
