Kate Bush, solo Peter Gabriel, the Alan Parsons Project, bits of XTC, late period Roxy/solo Bryan Ferry, that kind of thing. No Americans.

I mean Kate Bush can be bombastic too in places but generally I'm thinking of a vibe that is more restrained and cerebral, often melancholy
