Best Grace Slick Performances

An incredible vocalist of whose material I know very little. I'm basically familiar with White Rabbit, Somebody to Love, and Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now. What else is worth listening to?

I really liked Dreams when I heard it regularly too but not heard it for a while.

All of Red Octopus is really good imo. "Al Garimasu (There Is Love)" is probably the song that features Slick's vocals the most. xp!

I can't separate her best vocals from my favourite songs. (I tried--I started to type in "Her best vocals are..." and realized I was simply going to name my favourite songs.) The "feed your head" part of "White Rabbit" is awesome. "Mexico" is my favourite Airplane song that she sings. She really goes into overdrive at the end of that, too.

Don't forget "rejoyce" from After Bathing at Baxter's. It's probably one of the earliest rock songs combining jazz and classical art song, and without any guitars.

"Mexico" is one of those songs where I like my misheard lyric better than the real one. For years I heard "Talking about the problems of the leaf/And yes, it'll be back soon" as "Talking about the problems of belief/And yes, it'll be back soon." "The leaf" is kind of corny; "the problems of belief" give the song philosophical weight, pot as the gateway to higher consciousness it's supposed to be. So I still sing my lyric.

how are her solo albums? Dreams has a cool cover.

'Hey Frederick' from 'Volunteers' (which also boasts Nicky Hopkins's best guest piano on an album, and some of Jorma's best 'studio recording' soloing (for me 'Volunteers' is all about Jorma's contributions, as guitarist, singer, and songwriter --- 'Turn My Life Down' has never received the acclaim it deserves: short, soulful, and the best of Jorma on a JA studio album.) (Because 'Bless Its Pointed Little Head' is one of the best live albums ever.)

The version of "It's No Secret," for sure--a career high point.

People aren't answering the question, but I will. Manhole is the one you want to check out. It's got "Theme from the Movie Manhole" and other good Spanish-y sounding songs.

Grace Slick loves Spanish music. In her autobiography she admits to being a big fan of the Gypsy Kings.

I was mostly let down by Slick's post-Airplane recordings, but definitely second 'Manhole' as her most interesting (and ambitious and provocative!) solo efforts.
