god it's weird to hear such a direct album from them at this point. i'm pretty sure i really like it, though in retrospect the fall of hearts was a peak of their discography

prob best for me not to settle on an opinion of a new katatonia record yet, i remember thinking dead end kings was sooo boring and i was so wrong

(basically i still have days where i listen to 'teargas' twenty times in a row and i'm more than happy with that, but i guess i *could* diversify at some point?)

i think it's maybe their most radio-forward album? parts will recall nu-metal but as if filtered through a fine mist. what i think is crazy about this record is the twin effect of 1) how proggy the riffs are 2) how catchy the songs are

great cold distance feels like they settle into a groove (and they sort of do up to and including fall of hearts)

i would like to write at length about why katatonia is the greatest band of all time but i never really know what to say! like, yeah, sure, i just love it when the riffs curl up like a dying spider's legs but beyond that idk! something ineffable! when autumn or a particularly gloomy day comes around you want to put them on and stare at the gray world through your window with the impassiveness of a raven! their b-sides are also crazy good! and i really love this 2011 show where they play all of last fair deal gone down and then a sampling of tracks across their discog including "brave" and "i break"!

I was seeing that cover image as "Sky Full Of Stars" and thinking, yeah I can see Katatonia pull off a decent cover of that.

i was grieving over running out of katatonia albums to listen to but i just found out about october tide's rain without end! yeah!

seriously if you're like me and have been looking for a secret follow-up or at least something else approximating the desolate decayed "alone in my castle thinking about the absence of god" atmosphere of dance of december souls, the october tide record is the closest i've come to it

Have you heart The Fall Of Every Season? Both albums scratch the early-Katatonia itch very well. Saturnus “Paradise Belongs To You” as well.
