Without being overly didactic, might I suggest you spin the playlist as a sampler and feel free to skip around until you find new sounds that appeal? It's not meant to be an ordeal, it's a discovery... hopefully one with a good signal to noise ratio. Think of it as a strong freeform radio station: give us twenty minutes a day and we'll give you the world!

NB: this thread is intended to be excessively safe space for the dilettante/culture vulture listener; feel free to ask questions about any artist or song you find without fear of being browbeaten. Maybe slumming experts may be able to tell you more!

One of my first discoveries of note on compiling the current playlist is this wild Nkisi album:

Enjoying a roam through the January playlist atm - thanks for assembling these (especially as I didn't realise there was a new PUP single!)

there was an acoustic / singer-songwriter thread in 2017 that i wish would've rolled forward into new years...

i suppose i could've done it myself in the time it took to type this.

Bumping for late February: 125 tracks and 8 1/2 hours of listening.

Who will take the challenge? Heck, I will!

It was a good challenge! Found lots to enjoy!

Let's move on to a March playlist, shall we?

How does this work ulysses, can we add songs ourselves to the playlist?

lefal junglist platton (wtev), Wednesday, 13 March 2019 17:54 (five years ago) link

I pull everything on all the listed threads and add them to the playlist. The collaborative part is meant to be discussion!

BTW, if anyone's doing this on and off, I've updated the playlist to today. Seven hours of music is enough for you to knock it out in one workday!

Can I borrow your thread for a sec, forks?

I made a pseudo-pan-African-pop/not-pop Spotify playlist for the rolling afro 2020 thread and all Afro-adjacent threads, generously defined. That includes the (South African) House of Sun-El and Amapiano threads. It’s already 108 tracks deep, in lots of different styles, genres and flavours - it’s a big continent!

That should be at least some of your 2020 listening sorted, everybody - enjoy!
