Admittedly, I only know her first two albums on Capitol because of this wonderful package. My interest in her is an extension of my interest in David Axelrod, as he worked on the albums on that disc.

But those albums are fantastic!

I've never actually seen any of her albums on a record store shelf, but a quick search on Discogs reveals she has a pretty decent catalogue.

What say you?

Mahlalela's first minute is pure glory made into music. The whole album is soulful, I should listen to it in entirety more often.
To the people who wanted to learn to pronounce gqom, you can also start with qonqoza (or do the c from mncane, or the -hl, -hl never -shl).

checking out the 1973 album naturally on fantasy. heavy involvement from wayne henderson and the adderley brothers. very good for the soul.

the title of the opening track, β€œAfro Texas”, is intriguing enough (as well as ambitious)
