Yeah, I'm miffed at the absence of EW&F in the year album polls popping up here, and the forced shuttering of the EW&F track-by-track thread. Dammit, ILM, get on board with the love here!

everything on here is great but "shining star" is beyond perfect

Like, this is just a major, major blind spot for ILM.

Anyway, I voted for "Yearnin' Learnin'" so it looks like it'll tie for first place, which is cool.

“Shining Star” was the first thing I ever heard by them back in ‘75 and it knocked me out. But I also really really really love the title track, so incredibly gorgeous.

Yeah, this is an excellent album all the way through, but I gotta pick "reasons". One of the most beautiful songs ever made, and Philip Bailey's falsetto on it is just so exquisite. To me, he is the greatest falsetto soul singer, even above Curtis Mayfield.

Yeah, this is my runner up pick.

Title track for me

Likewise. A perfect song.

It's dreadful and EW&F are barely in it.

zama roma ding dong (Eric H.), Monday, 15 April 2019 18:14 (five years ago) link

Haha, yeah, refusing to review the movie and instead just doing a track-by-track of the soundtrack was my only available option.

agreed. this is the kinda stuff i was aiming for with this thread:

lush post-1970 soul music from motown / tamala / atlantic is the best shit ever

probably "see the light" because it's the weirdest, i'm more of a fan of their debut!

Jaki Liebowitz (rushomancy), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 14:07 (five years ago) link

Yeah, "See the Light" is really fascinating.

zama roma ding dong (Eric H.), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 14:12 (five years ago) link

Have not heard all the tracks, but the title track has always been a favorite. Puts my troubled mind at ease.

shining star and the title track are gonna gobble up votes, so i think i'll vote for all about love

damn, reasons is pretty excellent too, isn't it?

voodoo chili, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 20:25 (five years ago) link

The falsetto's too intense for me -- like a guitar solo -- but, wow, what a performance.

Great album. One of their many classics.

It has to be the title track for me. Such a gorgeous song and probably my favourite track of theirs.
