Forgot about that album Hudson John Scofield made as a collaborator with Jack DeJohnette, Larry Grenadier and John Medeski which has a bunch of these.

Must be something on Gabor Szabo that fits the bill.

Willie Nelson and Trigger (world's ugliest guitar; the dead hoss couldn't be any worse at this point) can skronk the chestnuts in concert, whenever they're a mind to.

in Related news, from my recent review of Country Funk 3, which also incl. ventures into in Discoland; this is in reference to a track called "Do Me":
So maybe there's a tension, a nervous energy to some of the eagerness here. But Travis Wammack doesn't feel it, he's grinning in the shadows, prob best he lets the music do most of the talking, walking up with a rhythm guitar that sounds like a rusty farm implement well-repurposed—-then it gets psychedelisized, as the Chambers Brothers would say, and then the whole track does, maybe with synths for horns and the LITA-mentioned Moog bass line, some more voices.
Edd Hurt sez that Travis is still gigging, "frequently playing his instrumental hit 'Scratchy.'"

not quite what this thread was created for, but you might want to look for Tom Guarna soloing on "Whipping Post" with Gov't Mule.
