Eleven-year-old me is wondering why you wasted time listing anything other than Beelzebubba.

I don’t think I’ve ever listened to Animal Boy. Feel like I should do that at least before voting. My first thought is American Beauty.

Fun story: when I was in like third or fourth grade, I was riding my bike through the neighborhood and listening to my Walkman when this kid who had kind of a reputation as a tough stopped me and asked what I was listening to (in a fashion which suggested more interest in giving me the business than in discerning my musical tastes). He was impressed enough that I was rocking out to Shout at the Devil that I'm pretty sure I escaped a pounding that day. So prepubescent me would rate that a respectable distant second.

xp: Animal Boy is probably far from the best Ramones album, but it was my first and therefore my favorite.

xxp In middle school, I bumped into a few of the "cool kids" as I was walking back from the record store. They asked me what I had bought; I pulled out a tape of Steel Wheels. One of the guys nodded to his buddy, "Good album, good album...."

And Justice For All by a distance.

xp: actual lol

btw, I'm sure this list if woefully incomplete in some regard, so you guys can suggest other favorite albums of mine if you want and we can add it to the next poll!

I'm listening to Camper Van Beethoven's Key Lime Pie right now and that was an oversight that I think I oughta fix.

Are these your favorites right now or were they favorites at various times in your life?

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Tuesday, 30 July 2019 03:15 (four years ago) link

Skyscraper really?

calstars, Tuesday, 30 July 2019 03:18 (four years ago) link

xp: these are favorites with staying power. So they were favorites at one point in my life and in most cases I've never thought about putting them away.

And yes, Skyscraper. Maybe that's kinda like the Ramones, where that was the first DLR-related thing I ever heard and so it imprinted on me. But I still prefer it to any Van Halen or whatever.

mmmm, I'd probably like the "Club Ska 67" album best, but I don't know it specifically.

So, it's easy - the Blondie album. The rest are not even in my meh collection.

Ritual de lo Habitual is the one I've listened to most but the Dead, Neil Young, and BtS albums also merit consideration.

Any favorite albums of mine that you think I might have forgot? As noted above, I'm willing to take suggestions for Part II of this poll.

"Powderfinger" always slays me. xp

Key Lime Pie! :)

Part of me favours Jane's Addiction from the official options. It sounds good in my head despite possibly not having heard it since... whenever I last lived in the same household as my brother.

Extrapolating from what's here, Aerosmith? Living Colour?

I had Vivid on my initial draft because that was a huge album for me at the time, but I haven't listened to it as often lately.

This is kind of like looking at a Rorschach blot, but maybe try something by Ghost, the Swedish one? Meliora is good.

o. nate, Tuesday, 30 July 2019 16:22 (four years ago) link

neil vs. BTS

My first thought as well, but then again only one of these albums contains "Would?"

geoffreyess, Tuesday, 30 July 2019 19:03 (four years ago) link

Voting Blondie. Feel like I was in on the ground floor in 1976, as I nabbed a promo copy of the "In The Flesh" single (which the station I worked at was never going to play) and bought the LP (on Private Stock) when I went home that Christmas.

Wow I had no idea Neil still pulled these kinds of numbers. He’s boring af to my ears these days

Damn, impressive turnout for a quasi-parody thread. Thanks for playing, everyone!

o. nate, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 01:56 (four years ago) link

I love NMN but have never heard Live and Cuddly. Will rectify this

Simon H., Wednesday, 31 July 2019 02:14 (four years ago) link

xp: they ARE, but I created it as a lighthearted pisstake of the 1994 album poll upheaval.

☮ (peace, man), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 08:32 (four years ago) link

And Simon, Live and Cuddly is a great live document of the band. I haven't actually listened to any of their studio stuff in years, but my impression of Small Parts Isolated and Destroyed in particular was that it was too stiff for me.
