Best Album on OUR Favourite Albums of......1995!! Part Two The Bubbling Under

Two of my favourite albums of all time – Dissection's Storm of the Light's Bane and Robert Rich & B. Lustmord's Stalker – came out in 1995 and they're on neither list.

Maxinquaye it is. Could've also gone with Autechre, GZA, Mobb Deep, Radiohead, Raekwon, Slowdive, The Verve and Ulver. What a year.

These are 3 of my favourite albums of all time, don't make me choose! (Also "A Stable Reference" lived on my phone/mp3 player for many years as a default "away from home and can't sleep" music, and much love to that great run at the start of AGCG/Aphex/Autechre too.)

Well, I don't dig out the Sparklehorse that often these days and I figure the Pavement votes will probably look after themselves so Mouse on Mars it is. Buzzing, joyful/wistful, otherworldly.

It had to be ODB in the end.

3-way tie between Smashing Pumpies, Aphex and Pavement. Is The Great Escape the most 'has aged terribly' record ever? Was it ever good? Autechre album is great but also one of my least favourite by them so...

Oh god I just saw 'Tilt' in there. It's gotta be that.

It's weird, I never think of Tilt as a 90s album. It still sounds like it was made yesterday.

Mobb Deep for me. My all time fave rap album.

yeesh, tough choice. the Aphex + Autechre albums are both pretty good but I dock 'em a bit for containing some pretty irritating noises. the Mouse on Mars album actually holds up better to my ears. but I think I'm gonna go with Black Grape here. just a really fun disc that I probably overrate because the idea of a Shaun Ryder comeback in 1995 still seems mindboggling. that Chems album is also classic of course - looking back it's probably even more influential than I give it credit for, you can divide a lot of 90s electronic stuff into pre- and post-Exit Planet Dust eras

Different Class for me, both in terms of it being near perfect and maybe also my most teenage nostalgia filled record (becomes bbc4 talking head) I LITERALLY WORE IT OUT - LITERALLY.

In 1995 it was Radiohead's "The Bends", I got into Scott in the 00's so now it's "Tilt".

It’s ODB or Autechre (who were in in the middle of their artistically most interesting period).

Many great metal albums, I think Skepticism and Ulver aren’t even in the top 10 for this year, which has Anathema, Summoning, Immortal, Rammstein, Death, Mütiilation, The Gathering, etc.

the 90s years have been ridiculously good and cutting lists has been really hard for mike and I and everyone posts albums not in it and we're like yes they should be in it too.

Shows up the futility of canons as they dont come near representing the best stuff for a lot of people

so much music came out in the 90s compared to previous decades maybe?

and the 00s were even worse in that respect, esp with p2p we could actually hear almost everything we read about.

Landcruising is one of the few genuinely great techno albums. A Wonderful Life, Home Entertainment, Science Fiction are all standouts but it works from start to finish

I could happily vote for maybe 20 these and might have chosen Labradford, Luna or Slowdive at the time. But I'll opt for Labcabincalifornia. I've had that CD forever but still don't feel like I entirely grasp what's going on. Which is nice.

Really fancied listening to Black Secret Technology on my way home from work the other day but sadly it's not on Spotify.

This is the first of these lists where I actually heard several (i.e. more than two) of the albums during the year in question - at the time I would have voted for the Chemical Brothers (I got that and the Goldie album on CD for Xmas).

by the way out of the list i posted i want to specifically go out of my way to promote "black belt in boogie", wherein erstwhile Black Oak Arkansas imitators Raging Slab decided to go all-in on the Captain Beefheart sound. rick rubin refused to release it, and they released a revamped version (which is nearly as good) the next year. i cannot overstate how much i love this record; it's one of my most-listened to albums.

lots of great hip hop on this set, the Big L record is fantastic. Went Raekwon in the end.

Critics slagged off the jazzbo bits of "Timeless" but tracks like "Sea of Tears" are gorgeous imo. I hope the album gets a good few votes

Sea Of Tears is pretty great isn't it. Timeless was my first impulse here.

I remember Melody Maker giving Catatonia album of the year and liking Suede's Head Music. MM went downhill pretty fast
