Sorry for the abbreviation on Diddy, at first I was worried the formatting was going to screw up, but that was the only easily-abbreviable one, so I just said screw or and went for it

a list to my liking! plenty i need to hear alongside my many adored records here

Shabazz!

Dunderheaded oversight: Noura Mint Seymali's Arbina should be just underneath Roy Mkntgomery up there

And uh holy shit I just realized I forgot Blackheart too fml

Of the few I've heard, D'Angelo.

pomenitul, Friday, 20 September 2019 08:19 (four years ago) link

Let England Shake just tops D'Angelo for me.

Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 20 September 2019 08:38 (four years ago) link

weird selection. what pomenitul said.

I could be boring and predictable and go with Lamar but I'm going with that Fat White Family album. One of the best albums this year so far.

The World According To.... (Michael B), Friday, 20 September 2019 14:22 (four years ago) link

kendrick vs. d'angelo is an internal argument i'll have to have before i make my own end-of-decade list. gonna go with peaking lights, cause i'm sure the other two will get plenty of love.

Picking Horse Lords' Interventions, great album, awesome live. (Lamar, Belong, Peaking Lights and PJ Harvey are other favourites from the list)

willem, Friday, 20 September 2019 14:55 (four years ago) link

Kendrick over PJ

Weird that we haven’t seen any of these best-of-the-decade lists yet. We’ve only got three months to go, I doubt any contenders will appear in that time.

Mr. Snrub, Friday, 20 September 2019 15:25 (four years ago) link

we should wait until 2029 for this decade to marinate obv

imago, Friday, 20 September 2019 15:28 (four years ago) link

nice to see some love for black bananas! depending on mood might have picked TPAB, arbina, peasant or black messiah but went for horse lords

ogmor, Friday, 20 September 2019 15:31 (four years ago) link

no king krule, fuck this list. sorry drugs, nothing personal.

Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Friday, 20 September 2019 17:26 (four years ago) link

No problem, sorry I never checked KK out

you're not missing much

imago, Friday, 20 September 2019 18:08 (four years ago) link

xp 2 albums-- which one do you think is better, Austin?

the cretin hits the cast (Drugs A. Money), Friday, 20 September 2019 18:08 (four years ago) link

ehh, i was mostly kidding. . .but uhm, 6 feet beneath the moon i guess. the ooz is way different, so it's a case of you maybe liking one and not the other one.

archy also did a new place 2 drown, which is basically a hiphop record. besides the voice, it's really different than the king krule stuff.

Retribution Gospel Choir's 3. My favorite record of the decade.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 20 September 2019 22:35 (four years ago) link

Of these I really like Stara Rzeka, Le1f and Shabazz Palaces (as of listening to it today) and

*absolutely love*

Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly
Jute Gyte - Oviri
Jute Gyte - Ship of Theseus
The Armed - Only Love
Mastery - VALIS
Stabscotch - Uncanny Valley
D'Angelo - Black Messiah
Richard Dawson - Peasant
Kairon; IRSE - Ruination

(had certain other Dawn Richard and Clipping albums been here they'd have been on this list too)

I'd like to talk about the latter of these. I'll probably not vote for it (because...Ship of Theseus, folks), but it's so overlooked and so totally kickass. Here's a progged-out post-rock climax to end them all:

This is my go-to track from Ruination but the album is phenomenal through and through

Of these I really like Stara Rzeka, Le1f and Shabazz Palaces (as of listening to it today)

I would probably single out "Endeavors For Never" as the big LJ from Black Up, the way it has kind of a musique concrete feel imo
