This is the second thing today that reminded me of Cop Shoot Cop. Specifically "Coldest Day of the Year", which I remember from John Peel ages ago:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1h_ecrxXklQ

New album is fantastic. Hope they play here at some point, they must be a riot live.

I’ve been wondering why we didn’t have a thread already

have always strongly & viscerally disliked this lot but who knows maybe that'll change
― imago, Monday, 30 September 2019 17:58 (five years ago) link
i think they've progressed a lot from their early work but also this is a band where i couldn't decide if you'd love them or absolutely hate them lj
"shoulderblades" is my music video of the year

it won't, I'll leave you all alone
see also: black midi (although given the choice i'd say they're preferable)
the video did seem cool though

I didn’t like Holding Hands with Jamie nearly as much as I did The Early Years. Hope this is more of a return to form at least as far as my ears are concerned

This introduced me to the band.Don't care if it's a cover, it's fucking brilliant.I was bummed they didn't play it when I saw them with (still at that point called) Viet Cong.

As I mentioned on the songs that sound like other songs thread, I have decided “law man” is a great cover of Pretty Woman
― El Tomboto, Thursday, 3 October 2019 17:14 (five years ago) link
Also they should do a track with the guy from Sleaford Mods

So, why ‘were’ they called Girl Band in the first place?

Yeah, I saw that.
Still none the wiser..

My guess is they thought it was funny. Maybe simply because none of them are girls, but it's always had that undercurrent of lol girl bands are inherently funny, lololol girl musicians amirite? The name itself isn't offensive at all, but when you're placing yourself in a culture that constantly diminishes women then it's good to have a deeper think about your place in it. Good on them, I say.

That's true. But without ever digging any deeper I thought it was probably just the obvious play on and opposition to to the idea of the "boy band".

Well, I guessed it was meant to be ironic.
Just, the idea that they had no idea themselves was..
