Rather than bumping the Lillix thread every time she releases anything, I think it’s high time Louise Burns had her own one.
Lillix, from what I recall, were not particularly good. Burns’ last two solo records (her third and fourth) have been wonderful. Young Mopes was my favourite album of 2017 and Portraits one of the best of this year.
There are shades of various synthy indie groups but, at heart, her music probably has more in common with my beloved Belinda Carlisle. It’s big, sincere, melancholy, adult contemporary pop – not a million miles from Haim, but with their hyperactive energy dialed back a couple of notches.
She doesn’t seem to have garnered much attention outside of Canada (and not much more inside of Canada), which is a shame.

Funny you mention Belinda Carlisle as LB's cover of The Downtown Lights did kinda make me want or wish there'd been a BC one (this is intended as a compliment).

personally i prefer this album to young mopes. "clowns" and "cry" and "cherry" are all fab as are the songs that don't begin with a "c".
