I had AYE at #2 over EL on my ballot but on reflection I think the latter edges it, especially if you go by the original tracklisting (I've only ever owned versions of the debut with the early single A and B sides tacked on the end). Electric Ladyland really is one of the all-time great double albums.

Sides 3 and 4 of Electric Ladyland are the pinnacle of rock

Electric Ladyland drives me crazy. I think the backing vocals around 2:25 of Long Hot Summer Night are my least favorite thing Jimi put on tape.

'Come On (Let the Good Times Roll)' is 'What'd I Say'. 'Burning of the Midnight Lamp' is 'Come as You Are' slowed down with wah wah. I don't know how Jimi stole it from the future.

Ladyland is killer start to finish

Being into a Hendrix poll and not being into Electric Ladyland is befuddling. I took House Burning Down off my ballot at the last minute and now regret it just thinking about it.

i rate the 3 studio albums chronologically, but had Band of Gypsys #1. I think my love for jimi is rooted in what sounds great on guitar in a 3-piece. EL has great moments but is a departure from that and sounds a little too loose overall for me. For example, 'All Along the Watchtower' has great guitar moments, but it sounds more like a santana song, and you can't, in my experience, have as much fun playing it alone on guitar in your bedroom. that last bit is probably the unfair bias i bring to this poll.

Not so great to use 'great' over and over in that post, but i'm fuckin wired on iced tea and listening to EL all the way through.

Speaking of Santana, I was just thinking today about much it sucks that Hendrix had to die, robbing us of a collab live album of him, Santana, and Buddy Miles jamming on a volcano in Hawaii.

we got the santana + rob thomas collabo we all desired, but it only made us hunger more for the hendrix + sugar ray collabo that can never happen.

like I’m guessing “Still Raining, Still Dreaming” doesn’t make the poll, but in context it’s the glue between the astronomical wilds of Side 3 and the earthly doom of Side 4, with God’s wrath finally severing the two in a slight return. That solo! Blues as inner space.

That placement surprises me. But that probably just shows how far apart my taste is from most Hendrix fans'. I've never liked that song.

it is the guitar that makes it enjoyable

it's a well-constructed and beautiful little ditty, too. hence all the covers.

Little Wing was my #5 and I knew it was going to be high on the ILX poll. Surprising to me is that is not a unique ILX take: it's Jimi's fourth most played song on Spotify, higher than Fire or Foxey Lady.

i should mention that i totally forgot until now about mr. mcfall's chamber's version of "little wing" from their "like the milk" album, which surely would have made my covers shortlist if i'd remembered. it's not on youtube, but it is exceeding fine.
