Very excited for this. Will start doing some revision today. I have a feeling that if I listen to Control and Rhythm Nation that would be well over half my list right there. I need to make room for plenty of All For You as it's definitely her most underrated album. Really fond of Damita Jo too.

I'd highly recommend giving Unbreakable a spin.

gonna preemptively bring up "All Nite (Don't Stop)", "Feedback", and "The Great Forever" as latter-era gems

Damita Jo isn't much of a drop off after All For You and Discipline has some good moments too. I need to give Unbreakable another go. I know a lot of people on here really rate. I'll try and make room for No Sleeep on my list.

it might not be! i personally have a hard time making this judgment bc control has the same kind of relationship to rhythm nation as janet does to velvet rope, breakthrough -> masterwork

I have voted in some polls where I only knew half of the artist's catalog, but two albums + maybe 6-7 other songs would be like 20%? if we don't have enough voters, I'll try to listen to a couple more albums and throw in a ballot

I really do love that All For You takes Janet's traditional block of four album-closing ballads and moves them right up to the first half.

Doesn't Really Matter and Someone To Call My Lover are probably both going to be in my top 10.

"Doesn't Really Matter" was such a perfect summer jam. I don't think anyone thought that confident mid tempo thing would be her first post-VR single.

forks, it’s not a pain to me, and it’s not really that I feel a pressure to keep up either. it’s just that there’s so much good music coming out all the time, and I enjoy wallowing in it, which includes ending up in the occasional rabbit hole. I have bouts of revisiting or (re)discovering older stuff, but these are never planned and never last very long. it wasn’t always this way, but it is now, and like I said, I like it that way.

If I were to do my ballot for the 00s album reboot today I wd absolutely include All for You. 'Masterpiece' is def a word that came to mind a few times while I've been listening to it over the past week

it's definitely better than its reputation.
