The conceit of the song is he’s living in a candy jail (“Where the guards are gracious /
And the grounds are grand / And the warden keeps the data on your favorite brands”), but I don’t see the “wordplay” in the above lines...

it helps to hear it, and it might not meet a strict definition of wordplay (but it's playful!) -- the "sh" in fish going into "it" = "shit happens to me all the time" very berman :)
